Fuelling the nuclear ring of NGC 1097

Mattia C. Sormani et al.

Summary: Galactic bars drive gas inflows towards the centers of galaxies through bar dust lanes, connecting the galactic disc to nuclear rings. Measuring mass inflow rates is crucial for understanding galactic nuclei's mass and energy budget. In this study, the researchers used CO datacubes and a geometrical method to measure the mass inflow rate onto the nuclear ring of the barred galaxy NGC 1097.

A search for ionised gas outflows in an Hα imaging atlas of nearby LINERs

L. Hermosa Munoz et al.

Summary: The study aims to create the largest up-to-date atlas of ionised gas outflow candidates in a sample of 70 nearby LINERs. The results show that approximately 48% of LINERs exhibit outflows or inflows in the emission lines. The ionised gas seems to be correlated with the soft X-ray emission.

The PHANGS-MUSE survey Probing the chemo-dynamical evolution of disc galaxies

Eric Emsellem et al.

Summary: The PHANGS-MUSE survey maps 19 massive nearby star-forming disc galaxies using the MUSE integral field spectrograph. It provides the first integral field spectrograph view of star formation across different local environments and offers a unique perspective on associated gas and stellar kinematics, as well as constraints on star-formation history.

Role of Magnetic Fields in Fueling Seyfert Nuclei

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers detected CO-associated magnetic fields in nearby Seyfert galaxies using the velocity gradient technique (VGT). The results show a good agreement between the VGT-measured magnetic fields in molecular gas and those inferred from other polarization techniques, suggesting a correlation between star formation and cosmic-ray generation. Furthermore, the presence of significant radial magnetic field components in the central regions of most Seyferts indicates the occurrence of efficient molecular gas inflows or outflows.

Broad-band radio polarimetry of disc galaxies and AGN with KAT-7

L. S. Legodi et al.

Summary: This study used the Karoo Array Telescope (KAT-7) radio telescope array in South Africa to observe NGC 1808, NGC 1097, and four AGN-powered sources, revealing that highly polarized sources may have complex Faraday spectra, while PKS B0407-658 shows a simple spectrum. The disc galaxies are classified as complex despite low signal-to-noise ratio.

Quenched fractions in the IllustrisTNG simulations: the roles of AGN feedback, environment, and pre-processing

Martina Donnari et al.

Summary: The study using the IllustrisTNG hydrodynamical simulations demonstrates that the quenched fraction remains consistent for galaxies with mass greater than or similar to 10(10.5) M-circle dot across different environments and cosmic time, while low-mass galaxies mainly become quenched after becoming members of groups or clusters. In addition, low-mass satellite galaxies accreted more than approximately 4-6 billion years ago into massive hosts are predominantly passive, suggesting a limit on the time needed for environmental quenching.

Extragalactic Magnetism with SOFIA (Legacy Program)-II: A Magnetically Driven Flow in the Starburst Ring of NGC 1097*

Enrique Lopez-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Research shows that magnetic fields play a crucial role in controlling gas flows within the barred galaxy NGC 1097, particularly at the contact regions of the outer bar and the nuclear ring. Observations at 89 μm and radio wavelengths reveal different modes of the B-field, with gas streams both outside and within the starburst ring following the direction of the B-field.

PHANGS-ALMA: Arcsecond CO(2-1) Imaging of Nearby Star-forming Galaxies

Adam K. Leroy et al.

Summary: PHANGS-ALMA is the first survey to map CO J = 2 -> 1 line emission at 1'' similar to 100 pc resolution from a sample of 90 nearby galaxies (d less than or similar to 20 Mpc) that lie on or near the z = 0 main sequence of star-forming galaxies. The data from PHANGS-ALMA can be used to measure the demographics, life cycle, and physical state of molecular clouds across the galaxy population where most stars form at z = 0.

Composite bulges - II. Classical bulges and nuclear discs in barred galaxies: the contrasting cases of NGC 4608 and NGC 4643

Peter Erwin et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the detailed morphological, photometric, and stellar kinematic features of the central regions of two massive, early-type barred galaxies. NGC 4608 exhibits a classical bulge and a nuclear star cluster, while NGC 4643 has a nuclear disc and a small spheroidal component. Both galaxies show distinct structures in their central regions, highlighting the limitations of standard bulge-disc decompositions when applied to massive barred galaxies.

Black hole feeding and star formation in NGC1808

A. Audibert et al.

Summary: ALMA observations of NGC1808 reveal a nuclear spiral and a circumnuclear disk, with detections of dense gas line tracers like HCN, HCO+, and CS. Presence of an active galactic nucleus is indicated at the nucleus, with regular rotation observed within a radius of 400 pc, except for non-circular motions in the nuclear spiral arms. Potential weak outflow attributed to AGN feedback is observed along with a molecular outflow likely due to supernovae feedback at >= 250 pc in the NE direction, connected to a kpc-scale superwind.
