Quantifying the global 'CMB tension' between the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and the Planck satellite in extended models of cosmology

Eleonora Di Valentino et al.

Summary: In this study, the global agreement between observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and the Planck satellite is examined in different cosmological models with additional parameters. The Suspiciousness statistic is used to quantify the tension between the two experiments. Results show that the tension is reduced to 1.8 sigma when the effective number of relativistic particles is lower than the standard value, and ranges between 2.3 sigma and 3.5 sigma in other extended models.

Challenges for ACDM: An update

L. Perivolaropoulos et al.

Summary: In recent years, challenges to the standard ACDM model have been emerging as cosmological observations improve. This review discusses various signals in cosmological and astrophysical data that are in tension with the standard ACDM model, such as the Hubble tension, growth tension, and lensing amplitude anomaly, as well as other less-discussed signals that may hint towards new physics. The goal is to provide an update on the current status of these signals, particularly the Hubble tension, and refer readers to additional resources for more details.

A Comprehensive Measurement of the Local Value of the Hubble Constant with 1 km s-1 Mpc-1 Uncertainty from the Hubble Space Telescope and the SH0ES Team

Adam G. Riess et al.

Summary: This study reports observations of Cepheid variables in the host galaxies of 42 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to calibrate the Hubble constant (H (0)). The observations were collected over four decades and significantly improved the precision of the direct determination of H (0). The study presented multiple verifications of Cepheid photometry and explored different analysis variants to assess the sensitivity of H (0) determination. The baseline result for H (0) was found to be 73.04 +/- 1.04 km s(-1) Mpc(-1).

Cosmological implications of ns ≈ 1 in light of the Hubble tension

Fuminobu Takahashi et al.

Summary: The recent report emphasizes the presence of Hubble tension and explores the impact of various cosmological models on this issue. Some models may have a scalar spectral index greater than the predicted value by ACDM, and even allow for a scale-invariant scenario. Therefore, studying special early Universe models is crucial for understanding this unusual n(s).

Toward inflation with ns=1 in light of the Hubble tension and implications for primordial gravitational waves

Gen Ye et al.

Summary: Recent findings suggest that resolving the Hubble tension completely could indicate a scale-invariant spectrum of primordial scalar perturbation with n(s) = 1 for H-0 around 73 km/s/Mpc. The study shows that for well-known slow-roll models, if inflation ends by a waterfall instability while still in a deep slow-roll region, ns can be lifted to n(s) = 1.

Health checkup test of the standard cosmological model in view of recent cosmic microwave background anisotropies experiments

Eleonora Di Valentino et al.

Summary: This study compares the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies and polarization angular power spectra observed by different experiments. The results show anomalies in the CMB spectra that are not consistent with the standard cosmological model, indicating potential systematic biases or limitations in the current understanding of the universe. It is suggested that future high-precision CMB measurements are needed for a definitive answer.

D-term inflation in braneworld models: Consistency with cosmic-string bounds and early-time Hubble tension resolving models

Chia -Min Lin

Summary: In this paper, we revisit D-term inflation and provide bounds on the cosmic string tension using gravitational wave observations. We also consider the possible deviation of the spectral index compared with the ΛCDM model in light of prerecombination resolutions of the Hubble tension. Our study shows that D-term inflation requires very small coupling constants under these constraints, and we demonstrate that natural coupling constants (g = A = 0.1) can be achieved in the case of D-term inflation on the brane.

Toward early dark energy and ns=1 with Planck, ACT, and SPT observations

Jun-Qian Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the constraints on early dark energy (EDE) by combining the latest CMB dataset. The results show the existence of nonzero EDE fractions and larger Hubble constants. The inclusion of BAO + Pantheon data has minimal impact on the findings. The data significantly favors axionlike EDE over the standard ACDM model.

Summary: This study combines weak gravitational lensing observations from KiDS-1000, redshift-space galaxy clustering observations from BOSS, and galaxy-galaxy lensing observations from overlapping surveys to constrain the structure growth parameter S-8, resulting in a discrepancy with the Planck observations by 8.3% relative to Planck. The systematic uncertainties identified through various analyses are incorporated into the cosmological analysis, revealing a tension in the matter fluctuation amplitude parameter, sigma(8).

Curvature tension: Evidence for a closed universe

Will Handley

Summary: The tension in the curvature parameter measured between Planck 2018, cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing, and baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) data is 2.5-3 sigma using the suspiciousness statistic. Conclusions about the spatial curvature of the Universe from these data should be viewed with suspicion. Without CMB lensing or BAO, Planck 2018 has a moderate preference for closed universes.
