The AGEL Survey: Spectroscopic Confirmation of Strong Gravitational Lenses in the DES and DECaLS Fields Selected Using Convolutional Neural Networks

Kim-Vy H. Tran et al.

Summary: This paper presents the spectroscopic confirmation of candidate strong gravitational lenses using the Keck Observatory and Very Large Telescope. The study confirms the success of search methods using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in identifying strong gravitational lenses and reveals that these lenses are at higher redshifts compared to existing surveys. The authors have measured the redshifts of 104 lenses, and in combination with published redshifts, they present redshifts for 68 lenses. The study concludes that CNN-based searches are highly effective and have a success rate of at least 88%.

Summary: This study utilized crowdsourcing and archival images from the Hubble Space Telescope to identify 198 new strong gravitational lens candidates. These lenses were found to be fainter than those previously detected, making them ideal for lens modeling and scientific analysis.
