New high-precision strong lensing modeling of Abell 2744 Preparing for JWST observations

P. Bergamini et al.

Summary: In this study, a new strong lensing model for the Hubble Frontier Fields galaxy cluster Abell 2744 is presented, based on HST multiband imaging and MUSE follow-up spectroscopy. The inner mass distribution and critical lines of the cluster were accurately characterized using 90 spectroscopically confirmed multiple images. The lensing contribution of cluster members and the role of subhalo mass component were also investigated.

Observational evidence of evolving dark matter profiles at z ≤ 1

Gauri Sharma et al.

Summary: In this study, a pilot analysis of high redshift galaxy rotation curves is presented, which aims to constrain the structure of dark matter halos across cosmic time. Through mass modeling, it is found that dark matter halos have gradually expanded over the past 6.5 billion years. Comparisons with state-of-the-art galaxy simulations show that the dark matter cores of star-forming galaxies at z ~ 1 are smaller and denser than their local counterparts. This empirical evidence provides insights into the gravitational potential fluctuations in the inner region of galaxies and can be verified with deep surveys and future missions.

Ram pressure stripping in high-density environments

Alessandro Boselli et al.

Summary: Galaxies living in rich environments are affected by various perturbations. Among these, ram pressure stripping is a key process that removes the interstellar medium of galaxies and suppresses their star formation activity. This review summarizes the effects of this process on galaxies and highlights its importance in the evolution of galaxies of different masses.

Pilot-WINGS: An extended MUSE view of the structure of Abell 370

David J. Lagattuta et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the strong-lensing cluster Abell 370 using wide Integral Field Unit (IFU) spectroscopic mosaic from the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE). By combining the data with Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging, the authors provide new insights into the structure and mass content of the cluster.

The dynamical mass of the Coma cluster from deep learning

Matthew Ho et al.

Summary: This article presents new estimates for the dynamical mass of the Coma cluster based on Bayesian deep learning methodologies. The predictions for Coma's mass using the novel data-driven approach are statistically consistent with historical estimates. This measurement reinforces our understanding of the dynamical state of the Coma cluster and advances rigorous analyses and verification methods for empirical applications of machine learning in astronomy.

Total mass density slopes of early-type galaxies using Jeans dynamical modelling at redshifts 0.29 < z < 0.55

Caro Derkenne et al.

Summary: The change in the mass density slope of early-type galaxies over cosmic time can be used to study their evolutionary pathways. Hydrodynamical cosmological simulations suggest that density profiles were steep at high redshifts but became more isothermal as redshift approached zero due to gas-poor mergers. However, gravitational lensing results show a different trend, indicating a potential discrepancy between observations and simulations in understanding the evolutionary mechanisms for early-type galaxies.

Extending the evolution of the stellar mass-size relation at z ≤ 2 to low stellar mass galaxies from HFF and CANDELS

Kalina Nedkova et al.

Summary: This study extends the stellar mass-size relation to low stellar mass galaxies by combining data from the Hubble Frontier Fields and CANDELS surveys. The results show a specific relationship for star-forming galaxies across redshifts, while a more complex functional form is needed to describe the relation for quiescent galaxies.

The MAGPI survey: Science goals, design, observing strategy, early results and theoretical framework

C. Foster et al.

Summary: The MAGPI survey is designed to study the physical drivers of galaxy transformation during the Middle Ages, focusing on the kinematic and chemical properties of massive central galaxies as well as satellite galaxies. By comparing with observations from nearby Universe surveys like SAMI and MaNGA, MAGPI aims to provide new constraints and improvements in galaxy formation theory.
