SN 2021zny: an early flux excess combined with late-time oxygen emission suggests a double white dwarf merger event

The Luminous Type Ia Supernova 2022ilv and Its Early Excess Emission

Summary: We report observations and analysis of the Type Ia supernova 2022ilv, which belongs to the super-Chandrasekhar (Ia-SC) explosions, known as the 2003fg-like family. The light curve of the supernova shows a short-lived, pulse-like early excess similar to another luminous Type Ia supernova (SN 2020hvf). Spectral matching suggests a redshift of z = 0.026 +/- 0.005 for SN 2022ilv, and our model light curve indicates a large Ni-56 mass of 0.7-1.5 M (circle dot) and a large ejecta mass of 1.6-2.3 M (circle dot). The absence of a host galaxy further supports that these explosions occur mainly in low-metallicity environments.

Stable nickel production in type Ia supernovae: A smoking gun for the progenitor mass?

Summary: There is increasing evidence that white dwarf stars with masses below the Chandrasekhar limit contribute significantly to Type Ia supernova progenitors. The relative fraction of stable iron-group elements synthesized in the explosion may be used to differentiate between Chandrasekhar mass and sub-Chandrasekhar mass events. This study focuses on the explosive nucleosynthesis of stable nickel in Type Ia supernovae resulting from different progenitor masses, and investigates the potential use of [Ni II] lines as a diagnostic tool. The results show that stable nickel production is generally more efficient in Chandrasekhar mass explosions, but the lack of [Ni II] lines in late-time spectra of sub-Chandrasekhar mass events is not solely due to an under-abundance of stable nickel, but rather the higher ionization of nickel in the inner ejecta.

Infant-phase reddening by surface Fe-peak elements in a normal type Ia supernova

Summary: Type Ia supernovae, as thermonuclear explosions of white dwarf stars, are important for the chemical evolution of the Universe and cosmological distance measurements. However, their origins still remain uncertain. By studying the infant-phase detections of SN 2018aoz, it has been discovered that a previously unseen plateau in the B band and a rapid redward color evolution occurred shortly after the estimated first light. The presence of excess nucleosynthetic material in the outer layers of the ejecta suggests enhanced surface nuclear burning or extended subsonic mixing processes in some normal type Ia supernova explosions.

Constraining Type Ia supernova explosions and early flux excesses with the Zwicky Transient Factory

Summary: In the new era of time-domain surveys, Type Ia supernovae are being caught sooner after explosion, revealing significant variation in their early light curves. The distribution of Ni-56 in the ejecta and the presence of flux excesses are identified as the two driving factors for early-time evolution. Analysis of a large sample of young SN Ia shows that most observed light curves can be well reproduced by Chandrasekhar mass explosion models with highly extended Ni-56 distributions. The study also finds a higher frequency of flux excesses in 91T/99aa-like events.

New Modules for the SEDMachine to Remove Contaminations from Cosmic Rays and Non-target Light: BYECR and CONTSEP

A solution to this issue is the Spectral Energy Distribution Machine (SEDM) with its robotic control, which supports the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). By introducing two new modules, byecr and contsep, the quality of SEDM data can be further improved, leading to enhanced classification rate and accuracy.

A Comprehensive Measurement of the Local Value of the Hubble Constant with 1 km s-1 Mpc-1 Uncertainty from the Hubble Space Telescope and the SH0ES Team
