The eROSITA Final Equatorial-Depth Survey (eFEDS) X-ray properties of Subaru's optically selected clusters

N. Ota et al.

Summary: We present the results of a systematic X-ray analysis of optically rich galaxy clusters detected by the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey in the eROSITA Final Equatorial-Depth Survey (eFEDS) field. We found a small fraction of relaxed clusters and a shallow slope for the luminosity-temperature relation. This suggests that the average X-ray properties of the optical clusters are likely to be different from those observed in the X-ray samples. Therefore, the joint eROSITA and HSC observations are a powerful tool in extending the analysis to a larger sample and understanding the selection effect.

The eROSITA Final Equatorial-Depth Survey (eFEDS) Optical confirmation, redshifts, and properties of the cluster and group catalog

M. Klein et al.

Summary: A catalog of 542 X-ray selected galaxy cluster candidates was compiled and optical follow-up was conducted to provide redshifts and cluster confirmation. Through the use of optical imaging data and tools such as multi-component matched filter, 477 optically confirmed clusters and groups were successfully identified with a residual contamination of 6%.

The eROSITA Final Equatorial-Depth Survey (eFEDS) X-ray properties and scaling relations of galaxy clusters and groups

Y. Emre Bahar et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the scaling relations between X-ray observables of clusters detected in the eFEDS field using eROSITA observations. We find significant deviations from the self-similar model and our results are in good agreement with simulations including non-gravitational physics and recent studies taking into account selection effects. This indicates that non-gravitational effects play an important role in shaping the observed physical state of clusters.

The XXL Survey. XLII. The LX - σv relation of galaxy groups and clusters detected in the XXL and GAMA surveys

P. A. Giles et al.

Summary: The XXL Survey in combination with the GAMA spectroscopic survey is used to study the relationship between X-ray luminosity and velocity dispersion. The results show that the scatter of the X-ray selected sample is 2.7 times higher than the optically selected sample, and this difference increases when accounting for the X-ray selection. Additionally, 13 optically selected GAMA groups were found to be undetected in X-rays.

Summary: This study verifies the capability of eROSITA to perform large-area uniform surveys through scanning observations of the eFEDS field. It also provides a test and training dataset for calibration and data analysis procedures. Additionally, it constitutes the largest contiguous soft X-ray survey at this depth to date, supporting a range of early eROSITA survey science investigations.

Optical selection bias and projection effects in stacked galaxy cluster weak lensing

Hao-Yi Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the selection bias of the stacked cluster lensing signal associated with optically selected clusters and finds a positive correlation between redMaPPer richness and weak lensing signal at a given cluster halo mass. The results show that the stacked lensing signal is biased high due to the cluster lensing selection bias, leading to overestimated mean cluster mass and biased cosmology results.

The XMM Cluster Survey analysis of the SDSS DR8 redMaPPer catalogue: implications for scatter, selection bias, and isotropy in cluster scaling relations

P. A. Giles et al.

Summary: This paper presents an X-ray analysis of SDSSRM clusters using data from the XCS. The analysis includes measurements of X-ray luminosity and temperature for a large sample of clusters. The results show that the scatter in the temperature-richness relation is smaller than that in the luminosity-richness relation. The analysis also indicates that the selection method of the sample affects the scaling relation between luminosity and temperature.

The eROSITA X-ray telescope on SRG

P. Predehl et al.

Summary: eROSITA is the primary instrument on the SRG mission, conducting a comprehensive all-sky survey to study the large-scale structure of the universe, including galaxy clusters and Dark Energy. The survey is expected to revolutionize our understanding of the evolution of supermassive black holes and provide new insights into various astrophysical phenomena. Early observations confirm that the instrument's performance meets its scientific promise.

Summary: The paper discusses the Dark Energy Survey (DES) photometric data set from the first three years of science operations to support cosmologic analyses, with Y3 GOLD improving on previous releases and presenting an expanded and curated data set. Y3 GOLD includes nearly 5000 deg(2) of imaging in the south Galactic cap, with improved photometric residuals and per-object chromatic corrections compared to the earlier Data Release 1 (DES DR1).

Exploring the contamination of the DES-Y1 cluster sample with SPT-SZ selected clusters

S. Grandis et al.

Summary: A cross validation of the cluster catalogues selected by redMaPPer and SPT-SZ reveals a calibration of the richness-mass relation using SZE signal mass information. The study finds a lower confirmation rate of redMaPPer clusters at low richness by SPT-SZ, attributing this to low-mass objects incorrectly classified as clusters. By taking into account different cosmologies, the predicted redMaPPer number counts are found to be compatible with measured abundance levels.

Scaling Properties of Galaxy Groups

Lorenzo Lovisari et al.

Summary: Galaxy groups and poor clusters, more common than rich clusters, play a key role in understanding the gravitational and thermal evolution of the bulk of cosmic matter. Non-gravitational processes are expected to have a higher impact on galaxy groups due to their shallower gravitational potential, leading to systematic departures from expected scaling relations. Challenges in their detection have limited studies of galaxy groups, but upcoming large surveys are expected to change this, highlighting their central role in studying the structure formation and evolution in the Universe.
