Ghost in the Shell: Evidence for Past Active Galactic Nucleus Activities in NGC 5195 from a Newly Discovered Large-scale Ionized Structure

Xiaoyu Xu et al.

Summary: Using integral field spectroscopic observations, a new large-scale ionized gas structure extending to 10 kpc from the nucleus of NGC 5195 was discovered, likely inflated by past active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity. Estimates indicate the outflowing ionized gas has mass and energy outflow rates that cannot be explained by current star formation and low-luminosity nucleus, suggesting previous AGN activity or tidally stripped material as possible sources.

Ram pressure stripping in high-density environments

Alessandro Boselli et al.

Summary: Galaxies living in rich environments are affected by various perturbations. Among these, ram pressure stripping is a key process that removes the interstellar medium of galaxies and suppresses their star formation activity. This review summarizes the effects of this process on galaxies and highlights its importance in the evolution of galaxies of different masses.

The Dense Gas Mass Fraction and the Relationship to Star Formation in M51

Mark Heyer et al.

Summary: Observations of (CO)-C-12 J = 1 - 0 and HCN J = 1 - 0 emission from NGC 5194 (M51) were used to study the dense gas mass fraction in different environments within the galaxy. The dense gas fraction varies along the spiral arms in the disk but remains constant on average across all spiral arms. The dense gas fraction significantly increases in the central bulge due to effective pressure from the stellar and gas components.

A 0.6 Mpc H I structure associated with Stephan's Quintet

C. K. Xu et al.

Summary: Stephan's Quintet is a unique compact group of galaxies with multiple interactions and collisions, generating various tidal debris and intergalactic shocked gas. New observations of atomic hydrogen reveal detailed structures and features that require a rethinking of gas properties in galaxy groups and complex modeling in simulations of group formation.

Discovery of Extraplanar H i Clouds and a H i Tail in the M101 Galaxy Group with FAST

Jin-Long Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new high-sensitivity H i observation using FAST was conducted towards the nearby spiral galaxy M101, revealing an extended and asymmetric H i disk, three new H i clouds, and a new H i tail. These findings suggest a minor interaction between M101 and the dwarf companion NGC 5474.

FAST Discovery of a Long H i Accretion Stream toward M106

Ming Zhu et al.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of a possible accretion stream towards the Milky Way-type galaxy M106, originating from the satellite galaxy NGC 4288, with evidence based on deep H i imaging data. The research highlights the importance of high-sensitivity H i imaging in detecting low column density accretion features in nearby galaxies.
