Be,V, and Cu in the halo star CS 31082-001 from near-UV spectroscopy

H. Ernandes et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the metal-poor star CS 31082-001 is rich in r-process and actinide elements, with the first measurement of uranium abundance in an old star. The abundance estimates of beryllium, vanadium, and copper in CS 31082-001 are presented, showing that beryllium is low due to the cool temperature, while vanadium and copper have comparable abundances to other metal-poor stars. New chemical evolution models are proposed to investigate the results, and the study also explores other atomic lines in the near-ultraviolet for future studies of metal-poor stars.

Origin of highly r-process-enhanced stars in a cosmological zoom-in simulation of a Milky Way-like galaxy

Yutaka Hirai et al.

Summary: Research suggests that most highly r-process-enhanced (RPE) stars are formed in low-mass dwarf galaxies, while stars with higher metallicity may be formed in situ. These findings contribute to our understanding of the assembly history of the Milky Way and the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements.

The R-process Alliance: A Nearly Complete R-process Abundance Template Derived from Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of the R-process-enhanced Metal-poor Star HD 222925*

Ian U. Roederer et al.

Summary: This study presents a nearly complete inventory of the chemical compositions of metal-poor halo star HD 222925 with a rapid neutron-capture process (r-process). The results show remarkable agreement between the r-process elements and solar r-process residuals, while deviations are found among lighter elements and exhibit distinct trends.

The R-Process Alliance: Abundance Universality among Some Elements at and between the First and Second R-Process Peaks*

Ian U. Roederer et al.

Summary: This study presents new observational benchmarks for rapid neutron-capture process nucleosynthesis in metal-poor stars, offering an alternative to the predicted solar system r-process residual pattern. The findings suggest a potential inconsistency between the abundances of lighter and heavier r-process elements in these stars. The results also indicate the possibility of a universal abundance pattern among certain elements, spanning the first and second r-process peaks.

Origin of the heaviest elements: The rapid neutron-capture process

John J. Cowan et al.

Summary: The rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) is responsible for about half of the heavy elements found in nature, but uncertainties and open questions remain. Studies suggest that the production of the majority of heavy r-process elements may be associated with neutron-rich conditions, such as neutron star mergers.
