Green Synthesis of Flower-Like Carrageenan-Silver Nanoparticles and Elucidation of Its Physicochemical and Antibacterial Properties

Syafiqah Syazwani Jaffar et al.

Summary: In this study, flower-like carrageenan-silver nanoparticles (c-AgNPs) were synthesized through a green hydrothermal reaction. The reduction of silver nitrate to c-AgNPs was confirmed by the change in color of the solution and the presence of a UV-Vis surface plasmon resonance peak. The functional groups in carrageenan were responsible for the reduction and stabilization of the c-AgNPs. The c-AgNPs exhibited a crystalline structure and antibacterial properties, with a flower-like morphology composed of intercrossed and random lamellar petals.

Enhancement of Fluorescence Mediated by Silver Nanoparticles: Implications for Cell Imaging

Pradip Maiti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the surface enhanced fluorescence (SEF) of fluorescein (FL) by silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and its implications for human cell imaging. The Ag NPs were characterized and their interaction with FL and a cationic surfactant, CTAB, was studied. The distance-dependent fluorescence enhancement of FL by Ag NPs was theoretically correlated. The study confirms that the Ag NP/FL mixed system can produce a brighter and more intense fluorescence image in human lung fibroblast cells, potentially offering a higher resolution and more contrast for cell imaging.

Comparative Bio-Potential Effects of Fresh and Boiled Mountain Vegetable (Fern) Extract Mediated Silver Nanoparticles

Gitishree Das et al.

Summary: This study synthesized silver nanoparticles using fresh and boiled Korean mountain vegetable fern extracts, and evaluated their potential therapeutic effects. The results showed that both fresh and boiled silver nanoparticles had significant effects in inhibiting alpha-glucosidase, antioxidation, and cytotoxicity. However, the boiled silver nanoparticles were slightly more effective. These findings suggest that fern-mediated silver nanoparticles have potential applications in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

Efficacy of Sterculia diversifolia Leaf Extracts: Volatile Compounds, Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activity, and Green Synthesis of Potential Antibacterial Silver Nanoparticles

Ezz Al-Dein M. Al-Ramamneh et al.

Summary: Sterculia diversifolia is widely distributed in Jordan as an ornamental plant. The phytochemical studies on the volatile compounds in its leaves are limited despite the increasing demand for its applications. Recently, there has been a report on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the aqueous extract derived from Brachychiton populneus leaves. This study produced AgNPs using aqueous or ethanolic extracts from S. diversifolia leaves and detected the volatile compounds in ethanolic leaf extracts using Shimadzu GC-MS equipment.

Cellphone-Aided Attomolar Zinc Ion Detection Using Silkworm Protein-Based Nanointerface Engineering in a Plasmon-Coupled Dequenched Emission Platform

Aayush Rai et al.

Summary: Sustainable chemistry principles are used for go-green synthesis of nanomaterials, particularly using renewable raw materials like silkworm pupae protein (SWP) which, when mixed with metal ions (Ag+ and Au3+) and exposed to UV irradiation, produce unique nanogeometries suitable for plasmonic applications. The resulting nanohybrids exhibit remarkable optical and morphological properties, enabling highly directional and tuned surface plasmon-coupled emission for sensitive mobile phone-based detection of zinc ions. This frugal bio-nanoinspired technology has potential for point-of-care applications in resource-scarce settings.
