Anti-Quorum Sensing and Anti-Biofilm Activity of Pelargonium x hortorum Root Extract against Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Combinatorial Effect of Catechin and Gallic Acid

Fatma M. Abdel Bar et al.

Summary: HPLC-UV was used to compare major constituents of two Pelargonium x hortorum cultivars and Pelargonium sidoides root extract, revealing the presence of catechin and gallic acid in high concentrations and absence of umckalin. The antibacterial activity of the extracts was attributed to the high concentrations of catechin and gallic acid, showing the potential as a novel alternative to inhibit bacterial pathogenicity.

Crop Allelopathy for Sustainable Weed Management in Agroecosystems: Knowing the Present with a View to the Future

Aurelio Scavo et al.

Summary: Allelopathy, the biochemical phenomenon of chemical interactions between plants, is gaining popularity for sustainable weed management. Many important crops show allelopathic potential, which can be effectively utilized through methods like crop rotation and green manuring. Combining transgenic allelopathy with allelopathic tools can enhance the weed-suppressive efficacy.

Summary: The study found that autotoxicity has a significant impact on seed germination in alfalfa, with different varieties showing varying levels of tolerance to autotoxicity, mainly related to oxidative damage and lipid peroxidation. Through evaluation, WL656HQ and 3105C were identified as autotoxicity-tolerant and autotoxicity-sensitive varieties, respectively, maintaining redox dynamic balance through different oxidative scavenging systems.
