Lignans and Flavonoids from Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. and Their α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities

Xin-Yu Lei et al.

Summary: A pair of new lignan conformers and one new flavonoid glycoside, along with nineteen known compounds, were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.. The structures and configurations of these unknown compounds were determined using NMR and high-resolution mass spectrometry, and their α-glucosidase inhibitory activities were evaluated. Compound 10 exhibited the most potent inhibition activity, followed by compounds 8-12, 15-16, 18-19, 21-22. Enzyme kinetics revealed that compounds 8, 9, 15-16, 18-19, 21-22 were non-competitive inhibitors, while compounds 10-12 were anti-competitive ones.

The interplay of KRAS mutational status with tumor laterality in non-metastatic colorectal cancer: An international, multi-institutional study in patients with known KRAS, BRAF, and MSI status

Carsten Kamphues et al.

Summary: The study found that KRAS mutation status was independently prognostic in patients with left-sided colorectal cancer, but not statistically significant in right-sided and rectal tumors. This suggests a potential biological importance of tumor location in predicting outcomes.

Prenylated Flavonoids with Potential Antimicrobial Activity: Synthesis, Biological Activity, and In Silico Study

Mauricio Osorio et al.

Summary: Prenylated flavonoids are important natural compounds with significant biological activity, particularly in antimicrobial functions. Compounds 11, 12, and 13 showed strong inhibitory activity against human pathogenic fungi and clinical isolated Staphylococcus aureus MRSA, indicating the key structural requirements for antibacterial activity. Additionally, the combination of prenylated flavonoids with commercial antibiotics significantly enhanced the antibacterial activity against drug-resistant bacteria.

Neuroregenerative Potential of Prenyl- and Pyranochalcones: A Structure-Activity Study

Corinna Urmann et al.

Summary: Loss of neuronal tissue is a hallmark of age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Adult neurogenesis in the human brain has sparked interest in substances stimulating the endogenous neuronal regeneration mechanism. Medicinal plants are valuable sources of neuroactive small molecules. The pyrano ring is crucial for inducing neuronal differentiation of adult neural stem cells, while compounds with a prenyl group show lower activities.
