Enzyme-Induced Supramolecular Order in Pyrene Dipeptide Hydrogels for the Development of an Efficient Energy-Transfer Template

Harsimran Kaur et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of enzymes to control the self-assembly of peptides, leading to the formation of diverse peptide hydrogels by varying the enzyme concentration. The changes in reaction kinetics due to different enzyme concentrations influence the dynamics of self-assembly, ultimately affecting the properties of the gel phase material.

Capacity for increased surface area in the hydrophobic core of β-sheet peptide bilayer nanoribbons

Christopher W. Jones et al.

Summary: This study explores the self-assembly of amphipathic peptides with alternating patterns of hydrophobic and hydrophilic residues into beta-sheet bilayer nanoribbons. Increasing the surface area of aromatic side chain groups in the hydrophobic core did not affect self-assembly rates, while varying amino acids in the hydrophobic core resulted in morphological changes in the nanoribbon structures. The findings suggest that peptide hydrophobicity influences self-assembly propensity and the ability of the nanoribbon bilayers to accommodate steric functional groups.

The pH- and salt-controlled self-assembly of [1]benzothieno[3,2-b][1]-benzothiophene-peptide conjugates in supramolecular hydrogels

Anna Fortunato et al.

Summary: This study introduces a BTBT derivative functionalized with a beta-sheet-forming peptide, which self-assembles in water to form hydrogels triggered by pH changes and variations in salt concentrations. The role of hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions in hierarchical self-assembly is investigated in this work.
