Flexible BiOI thin films photocatalysts toward renewable solar fuels production

E. Luevanoo-Hipolito et al.

Summary: Thin films of BiOI photocatalysts were successfully synthesized via a one-pot microwave-hydrothermal method, demonstrating excellent electrical and optical properties. These films show great potential in generating valuable compounds, such as HCOOH, CH3OH, H2, and NH3, through photocatalysis under visible light. The addition of 3% wt. calcium gluconate as a sacrificial agent significantly enhances H2 production, reaching a continuous rate of 1.8 mmoles g-1 h-1.

Effects of Bi-dopant and co-catalysts upon hole surface trapping on La2Ti2O7 nanosheet photocatalysts in overall solar water splitting

Xiaoyan Cai et al.

Summary: Pristine and Bi-doped lanthanum titanium oxide nanosheets were synthesized as photocatalysts for overall solar water splitting, eliminating surface hole traps and enhancing photocatalytic activity. However, increasing the Bi-dopant level beyond 5 at.% resulted in the formation of localized states above the valence band, reducing the lifetime of photogenerated charge carriers and jeopardizing photocatalytic activity. By addressing surface trapping and surface catalysis issues, an effective strategy was proposed for nanostructured metal oxide photocatalysts.

2D/1D Z-scheme WO3/g-C3N4 photocatalytic heterojunction with enhanced photo-induced charge-carriers separation

Yang Li et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a promising photocatalytic semiconductor, but its photocatalytic activity is limited by electron-hole recombination. In this study, we successfully formed a Z-scheme heterojunction by loading two-dimensional WO3 nanosheets onto the surface of one-dimensional g-C3N4 porous nanotubes. The heterojunction inhibits electron-hole recombination and enhances the photocatalytic activities for hydrogen production and Rhodamine B degradation.
