Heteroctanuclear Au4Ag4 Cluster Complexes of 4,5-Diethynylacridin-9-One with Luminescent Mechanochromism

Pei Xie et al.

Summary: Two heteroctanuclear Au4Ag4 cluster complexes with a twisted paper clip structure have been prepared through self-assembly reactions. These complexes exhibit ligand fluorescence and phosphorescence in solutions, and display bright yellow-green phosphorescence in crystalline form. Mechanical grinding causes a dramatic shift from yellow-green emission to red luminescence.

Rapid Luminescent Enhancement Triggered by One-shot Needlestick-stimulus Using a Liquescent Gold(I) Salt

Di Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that luminescence from a gold(I) complex with an N-heterocycliccarbene-based ligand increased rapidly upon a one-shot needlestick-stimulus, transitioning from weakly orange-emitting to intensively violet-blue-emitting. The complex could repeatedly transition between stable solid, liquid, and metastable solid states without measurable degradation, potentially due to flexible intermolecular interactions in kinetically generated aggregates and strong Au-Au interactions in thermodynamically stable crystals.

A Photoluminescent Ag10Cu6 Cluster Stablized by a PNNP Ligand and Phenylacetylides Selectively and Reversibly Senses Ammonia in Air and Water

Yuwei Wang et al.

Summary: A photoluminescent bimetallic cluster was synthesized and showed strong phosphorescent emission at 630 nm, with rapid and recoverable sensing of NH3 in air or water. This cluster could potentially serve as a bifunctional chemical sensor for efficiently detecting ammonia in waste-gas and waste-water.

Persistent room-temperature phosphorescence or high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromism: polymorphism-dependent different emission characteristics from a single gold(I) complex

Xiao-Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The study reports two polymorphs of a new gold(I) complex with blue and yellow-green luminescence, exhibiting high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromic behavior and persistent room-temperature phosphorescence effect respectively. This is the first example of obtaining double-purpose crystalline materials with both high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromism and persistent room-temperature phosphorescence feature from a single luminophore.

A photoluminescent Au(i)/Ag(i)/PNN coordination complex for relatively rapid and reversible alcohol sensing

Yanhui Tao et al.

Summary: The trinuclear complex [Au2Ag(dppmaphen)(2)(CN)(2)]PF6 emits light when exposed to low molecular weight alcohols, likely due to interactions between the analyte and the -PPh2 group. The photoluminescence can be quenched by removing or replacing the analyte, leading to a visible, rapid, and recyclable on/off switching effect.
