Olive Yield and Physicochemical Properties of Olives and Oil in Response to Nutrient Application under Rainfed Conditions

Ermelinda Silva et al.

Summary: The effects of mineral fertilizers on the physicochemical properties of olives and oil under rainfed conditions were investigated in a three-year study. The results showed that the application of NPKB increased olive yield and improved fruit quality, but had an impact on the phenolics concentrations in fruits and oil. Further research is needed to determine the specific effects of fertilizer treatments on measured variables.

The Impact of Irrigation on Olive Fruit Yield and Oil Quality in a Humid Climate

Paula Conde-Innamorato et al.

Summary: Evaluating the production response of olive trees to irrigation is crucial, especially in regions with no tradition of olive production and humid climates. Results showed that proper irrigation can increase fruit weight and pulp/pit ratio, but the response of oil content and polyphenols varies among cultivars.

Singular Olive Oils from a Recently Discovered Spanish North-Western Cultivar: An Exhaustive 3-Year Study of Their Chemical Composition and In-Vitro Antidiabetic Potential

Maria Figueiredo-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality, physicochemical parameters, phenolic composition, and antidiabetic potential of olive oils obtained from centenarian olive trees. The oils were classified as extra virgin based on quality-related indices, sensory analysis, and genuineness-related parameters. Phenolic compounds were characterized using LC-ESI-TOF MS and quantitated using LC-ESI-IT MS. The content of phenolic compounds varied due to environmental conditions and ripening index. The studied olive oils exhibited stronger inhibitory effects against the alpha-glucosidase enzyme compared to acarbose.

Fatty Acid Composition from Olive Oils of Portuguese Centenarian Trees Is Highly Dependent on Olive Cultivar and Crop Year

Nuno Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The study found that olive cultivar and crop year both influence the fatty acid composition in olive oils, with differences in fatty acid content between different cultivars and years. Principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis can be used to correctly classify olive oil varieties based on fatty acid content, indicating the potential of certain varieties in producing olive oils with high nutritional value and resistance to oxidation.

Effects of pre-harvest deficit irrigation during the oil accumulation period on fruit characteristics, oil yield extraction, and oil quality in olive cv. Genovesa in an arid region of Argentina

Romina P. Monasterio et al.

Summary: Pre-harvest deficit irrigation can reduce fruit moisture, affecting fruit characteristics, oil yield, and quality. Decrease in fruit moisture leads to higher oil extraction, while also impacting the concentration of certain compounds in the fruit.
