Anti-inflammatory and Chondroprotective Effects of Platelet-derived Growth Factor-BB on Osteoarthritis Rat Models

Yu Cai et al.

Summary: This article explores the effects of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB on osteoarthritis (OA) and finds that PDGF-BB can attenuate OA development by inhibiting inflammation and enhancing cell proliferation through various signaling pathways. This is the first study to report the role of PDGF-BB in regulating OA development via PKA-mediated regulation.

Microneedles as a momentous platform for psoriasis therapy and diagnosis: A state-of-the-art review

B. H. Jaswanth Gowda et al.

Summary: Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune, and non-communicable skin disease with a prevalence rate of 2-3% worldwide. It is associated with various risk factors such as genetics, pathogens, stress, and medications. Treatment approaches for psoriasis include topical therapy, systemic therapy, and phototherapy, but they have limitations. To overcome these limitations, researchers have developed a microneedle-based drug delivery system for psoriasis treatment. This review provides information on the pathophysiology, risk factors, comorbidities, treatment approaches, and the potential of microneedles in psoriasis therapy and diagnosis.

Applications of Molecular Imprinting Technology in the Study of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research faces challenges such as matrix complexity, component diversity, and low levels of active components. Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) has gained popularity in TCM studies due to its predictable structure, recognition specificity, and low cost. This review summarizes recent advances in MIT for TCM studies since 2017, focusing on extraction/separation and purification, detection of active components, identification analysis of hazardous components, and other applications of MIT in TCM research.

ROR gamma t inhibition ameliorates IL-23 driven experimental psoriatic arthritis by predominantly modulating gamma delta-T cells

Celine Mortier et al.

Summary: Inhibiting ROR gamma t can effectively improve skin, joint, and gut inflammation in a preclinical PsA model, with reduction in clinical scores, weight loss, bone density, and surface erosions. ROR gamma t blockade also decreases IL-17 immune responses in PsA-affected tissues. Thus, targeting ROR gamma t may be a potential therapeutic approach for PsA.

Paradoxical phenomena of bullous pemphigoid induced and treated by identical biologics

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of biologics-induced bullous pemphigoid (BP) and the therapeutic effects of those agents for BP, exploring the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. The study found that biologics can both induce and treat BP, which might be associated with a helper T cells Th1/Th2 imbalance, complicated inflammatory networks, and a specific individual microenvironment. This finding provides a new perspective and alternative therapeutic options for BP.

Renal impairment and abnormal liver function tests in pre-therapeutic phenotype-based DPD deficiency screening using uracilemia: a comprehensive population-based study in 1138 patients

Sidonie Callon et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the rate of hyperuracilemia (>16 ng/mL) and investigate the influence of hepatic and renal impairment on uracilemia measurements. The results showed a steady decrease in hyperuracilemia rates over the 3 years. Elevated levels of AST and ALP, and reduced eGFR were linearly associated with higher uracil concentrations. Second uracilemia measurements altered the initial DPD deficiency diagnosis in almost 25% of the patients.

Intestinal dysbiosis exacerbates the pathogenesis of psoriasis-like phenotype through changes in fatty acid metabolism

Qixiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiota plays a role in regulating psoriasis by modulating host metabolism and skin inflammation. Transplantation of intestinal microbiota from mice with severe psoriasis-like skin phenotype to mice with mild symptoms exacerbates the skin inflammation. This study provides insights into the mechanism of action of intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Interleukin 17 Promotes Expression of Alarmins S100A8 and S100A9 During the Inflammatory Response of Keratinocytes

Carolin Christmann et al.

Summary: Psoriasis, characterized by altered differentiation of keratinocytes, involves an inflammatory response mediated by S100A8 and S100A9. While the induction of S100-alarmins is associated with increased expression of specific cytokines, the deletion of S100A9 in mice reduces the inflammatory phenotype. However, the expression of S100A8 and S100A9 does not significantly affect the maturation or inflammatory response of keratinocytes, indicating their role in the inflammatory response of keratinocytes during psoriasis.
