Design, Synthesis, and Insecticidal Activity of Novel Isoxazoline Compounds That Contain Meta-diamides against Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda)

Biaobiao Jiang et al.

Summary: We designed and synthesized a series of novel isoxazoline derivatives based on the active compound H13 to find effective candidates against the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Compound F32 showed excellent insecticidal activity against the fall armyworm and upregulated the content of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in insects. The results suggest that F32 could be employed as a novel isoxazoline lead compound to control the fall armyworm.

In Vitro Binding Effects of the Ecdysone Receptor-Binding Domain and PonA in Plutella xylostella

Yanjiao Feng et al.

Summary: Both insect ecdysone receptors and ultraspiracle form a self-assembling complex with ecdysteroids in cells, bind with genes in the nucleus, and regulate insect molting, metamorphosis, and growth. This complex is a target for the development of eco-friendly insecticides. The study analyzed the differences between the binding domains of ecdysone receptors and ultraspiracle monomers and dimers and examined the binding affinity of PonA and tebufenozide with the ecdysone receptor complex. Molecular simulations revealed the key factors contributing to the affinity enhancement.

Design, Synthesis, Fungicidal and Insecticidal Activities of Novel Diamide Compounds Combining Pyrazolyl and Polyfluoro-Substituted Phenyl into Alanine or 2-Aminobutyric Acid Skeletons

Zhi-Yuan Xu et al.

Summary: Thirty novel diamide compounds combining pyrazolyl and polyfluoro-substituted phenyl groups have been synthesized to develop potent and environmentally friendly pesticides. The preliminary bioassay results showed that the new compounds exhibit fungicidal, insecticidal, and acaricidal activities. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis indicated that the type of substituent and substitution pattern significantly affect the insecticidal and acaricidal activities.

Insertion of Small Flexible Linkers as a Useful Scaffold Hopping Tool in Agrochemistry

Clemens Lamberth

Summary: This article highlights the significance of manipulating molecular backbones by inserting small flexible linkers and demonstrates how analogues derived through this strategy may exhibit similar biological activity. Elongation with oxygen, amino, methylene, ethylene, vinyl, ethynyl, and CH2O bridges has led to the discovery of highly active agrochemicals.

Zhimin Guo et al.

Summary: This study reveals the differences in host plant preference, fitness costs, detoxification gene expression, and microbiome composition in Spodoptera frugiperda strains fed on different crop plant diets. The results suggest that population-specific plasticity in S. frugiperda is related to host plant diets.

Discovery of Novel Potential Aphid Repellents: Geranic Acid Esters Containing Substituted Aromatic Rings

Shixiang Pan et al.

Summary: This study designed a series of novel geranic acid esters containing substituted aromatic rings and investigated the impact of inversion ester groups on their activity against aphids. The results showed that the inversion of ester groups enhanced the repellent activity and binding affinity of the compounds towards aphids. Compound 5f exhibited the best activity. The introduction of meta-substitution of the benzene ring and halogen atoms facilitated the biological activity. Molecular docking results indicated the importance of hydrogen bonding interactions and hydrophobic interactions for the binding affinity with the aphids' odorant-binding protein.

Low reduction of invasive ant colony productivity with an insect growth regulator

Peter Yeeles et al.

Summary: The study found that treatment with (S)-methoprene resulted in lower egg production, subsequently decreased numbers of larvae, pupae, and workers over 135 days. However, treated colonies did not die and had 36% fewer worker ants compared to control colonies. Queen egg production was 39% lower in treated colonies, but treatment did not affect the internal physiology of dissected queens or worker activity levels.
