No Annealing Synthesis of Ordered Intermetallic PdCu Nanocatalysts for Boosting Formic Acid Oxidation

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: Due to their high catalytic efficiency and selectivity, ordered intermetallic Pd-based nanocatalysts have greater potential than disordered nanocatalysts for formic acid oxidation reactions (FAOR). In this study, monodisperse ordered intermetallic PdCu nanocatalysts were obtained through liquid phase reduction reaction without heat treatment. The obtained nanocatalysts displayed enhanced activity and durability for FAOR compared to other types of nanocatalysts.

Solution-Phase Synthesis of PdH0.706 Nanocubes with Enhanced Stability and Activity toward Formic Acid Oxidation

Yifeng Shi et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method to enhance catalytic performance by transforming palladium nanocubes completely into PdH0.706 using hydrazine treatment. The complete conversion of Pd nanocubes to PdH0.706 resulted in a fourfold increase in current density in formic acid oxidation reaction. Density functional theory calculations and surface models demonstrate that the degree of hydride formation can modulate the activity and selectivity of formic acid oxidation by influencing the stability of key intermediates.

Achieving complete electrooxidation of ethanol by single atomic Rh decoration of Pt nanocubes

Qiaowan Chang et al.

Summary: A new type of unalloyed single-atom electrocatalyst has been reported, which can completely oxidize ethanol to CO2 at a low potential. In situ X-ray absorption fine structure measurements and density functional theory calculations have revealed the working mechanism of this catalyst. This work contributes to the fundamental understanding of ethanol oxidation reaction and offers a new approach to tune the activity and selectivity for complicated catalytic reactions using low-coordination active sites.

Understanding the Grain Boundary Behavior of Bimetallic Platinum-Cobalt Alloy Nanowires toward Oxygen Electro-Reduction

Mrinal Kanti Kabiraz et al.

Summary: Grain boundaries have adverse effects on bimetallic platinum-cobalt (Pt-Co) nanocatalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), as they promote cobalt leaching and cause changes in the surface composition, leading to reduced catalytic activity.

Au-Stabilized Nanoporous PdCuAu Alloys Exhibiting Outstanding Catalytic Activity and Durability for the Formic Acid Oxidation Reaction

Junyang Xie et al.

Summary: This study presents an effective method to enhance the durability of metallic Pd electrocatalyst for formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR) by alloying with Cu and Au. The alloying process improves CO resistance and reduces Pd and Cu dissolution, while also modulating the electronic structure of Pd for better FAOR performance. The nanoporous PdCuAu ternary alloy catalyst exhibits significantly higher specific activity and mass activity compared to commercial Pd/C, resulting in a remarkable increase in power density and power efficiency for fuel cell applications.
