Preclinical Therapy with Vitamin D3 in Experimental Encephalomyelitis: Efficacy and Comparison with Paricalcitol

Luiza Ayumi Nishiyama Mimura et al.

Summary: The study revealed that Vitamin D3 (VitD) has the potential to control multiple sclerosis (MS) severity, but may trigger hypercalcemia, which led researchers to compare the therapeutic effects of VitD with a non-hypercalcemic vitamin D analog called paricalcitol (Pari). The results showed that VitD had downmodulatory ability to reduce inflammation and demyelination, while Pari did not have this effect.

Let-7a-5p regulates the inflammatory response in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps

Jianwei Zhang et al.

Summary: Let-7a-5p is downregulated in CRSwNP tissues and cells, while TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, and IL-6 are upregulated. Let-7a-5p can regulate the inflammatory response by inhibiting the expression of TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, and IL-6 in CRSwNP. Additionally, IL-6 is a target gene of let-7a-5p and the interaction between let-7a-5p and IL-6 regulates the inflammatory response through the Ras-MAPK pathway in CRSwNP.

Pro-inflammatory T helper 17 directly harms oligodendrocytes in neuroinflammation

Catherine Larochelle et al.

Summary: Th17 cells play a significant role in multiple sclerosis, causing glutamate release and changes in myelination when in contact with oligodendrocytes. Blocking CD29 can protect oligodendrocytes from Th17-mediated injury, offering new therapeutic potential for multiple sclerosis.
