Hierarchical zeolite for biomass conversion to biofuel: A review

St Mardiana et al.

Summary: The development of biofuel production from biomass is promising, with zeolites emerging as suitable materials for catalyzing biomass conversion. However, the diffusion limitation issues caused by the micropores in zeolites can be addressed by developing hierarchical porosity. Research on hierarchical zeolite catalysts is continuously growing to enhance their performance.

Overcoming phase separation in dual templating: A homogeneous hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite with flower-like morphology, synthesis and in-depth acidity study

Sanja Bosnar et al.

Summary: The dual templating approach attempted to synthesize hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite using CTAB, resulting in phase separation in most synthesis routes, but a specific combination led to the formation of a homogeneous hierarchical ZSM-5 with flower-like morphology, possessing significant microporous and highly developed mesoporous surface.

Uniform Mesoporosity Development in IncorporatedβZeolite: Dual-Template Strategy

Xiuqin Dong et al.

Summary: This study proposes a facile method to introduce mesoporosity into heteroatom-incorporated zeolites and successfully prepares hierarchical Zr-incorporated beta zeolite. The mesoporosity in the Zr-incorporated zeolite improves the accessibility of the active sites, leading to enhanced catalytic performance and stability.

Anchoring Effect of Organosilanes on Hierarchical ZSM-5 Zeolite for Catalytic Fast Pyrolysis of Cellulose to Aromatics

Huan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, ZSM-5 zeolites with intercrystal stacking macropores were synthesized by adding organosilanes (OSAs) with different alkyl chain groups. The prepared ZSM-5 zeolites possess a larger external surface area and pore volume, which promote the conversion of biomass into aromatics.

Hierarchical zeolites with high hydrothermal stability prepared via desilication of OSDA-occluded zeolites

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: Hierarchical zeolites with mesopores only on external surfaces were synthesized via an alkaline treatment for organic structure-directing agents (OSDA)-occluded zeolites. These zeolites exhibited higher catalytic activity and improved mass transfer due to the presence of mesopores on external surfaces. They also showed higher hydrothermal stability compared to conventional hierarchical zeolites.

Nanosponge hierarchical micro-mesoporous MFI zeolites as a high-performance catalyst for the hydroamination of methyl acrylate with aniline

Yuyan Zhang et al.

Summary: Zeolites can efficiently and selectively catalyze the hydroamination of alkenes, alkynes, and dienes due to their pore system and tunable acidity. This study investigated the activity of hierarchical micro-mesoporous zeolites in the hydroamination reaction and found that nanosponge MFI zeolite displayed the highest activity and yield.

Seed-assisted synthesis of hierarchical zeolite ZSM-5 in the absence of organic templates

Daria O. Shestakova et al.

Summary: Hierarchical zeolite ZSM-5 was synthesized using a template-free seed-assisted technique, and the influence of different synthesis conditions on its crystallinity and texture was studied. Characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption measurements were employed. The catalytic activity of the synthesized samples in n-hexane cracking was evaluated and compared with that of commercial ZSM-5.

Synthesis of hierarchical silica zeolites for heterogenous catalysis and adsorption

Gabriel Aguirre-Cruz et al.

Summary: Novel pure-silica hierarchical zeolite molecular sieves have shown great potential for adsorption and heterogenous catalysis. They surpass conventional zeolites in terms of diffusion and reusability. This review discusses various synthesis routes and methods for these materials, as well as their applications in catalysis and mass transport. The study also addresses the synthesis principles and mechanisms related to the production of mesoporous pure silica zeolites. These materials exhibit high catalytic activity and structural stability, making them an eco-friendly alternative to traditional catalytic platforms.

Samer Abdulridha et al.

Summary: Mesoporous Y zeolites were prepared using bottom-up templating and top-down post-synthetic treatment methods, with the latter showing more effective intracrystalline mesoporosity introduction using microwave-assisted chemical treatment, where nanocrystalline cellulose was found to be a more suitable template than carbon nanotubes.

Synthesis of hierarchically porous zeolite TS-1 with small crystal size and its performance of 1-hexene epoxidation reaction

Min Zhang et al.

Summary: TS-1 is a typical microporous zeolite that may hinder the diffusion of reaction products and cause secondary side reactions. However, by creating hierarchical pores of micropores and mesoporous/macropores, the performance of TS-1 in heterogeneous catalytic reactions can be greatly improved.
