Directional charge separation on 2D/2D BiVO4/MXene for the enhanced photoelectrochemical detection of oxytetracycline antibiotic in water

Liying Ling et al.

Summary: A rapid and efficient detection method is urgently needed to address the human health concerns caused by excessive emissions of oxytetracycline (OTC) antibiotics in water. This study presents a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor using 2D/2D BiVO4/Ti(3)C(2) for OTC detection. The BiVO4/Ti3C2 nanocomposites showed superior photo-electronic activities, facilitating efficient directional charge separation. The sensor demonstrated rapid photocurrent responses linearly correlated with OTC concentration in the range of 0.1-200 nM, with a detection limit of 0.03 nM (S/N = 3). The BiVO4/Ti3C2 sensor also exhibited good stability, reproducibility, and selectivity, making it highly promising for practical OTC detection in water.

Photoelectrochemical Reduction of CO2 Promoted by a Molecular Hybrid Made Up of Co(II)Pc on Graphene Oxide under Visible Light Illumination

Neha Nandal et al.

Summary: This study presents the development of an efficient photoelectrode material for the photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (PEC CO2RR). The hybrid CoPcS/GO-COOH system shows higher photocurrent density and increased charge carriers compared to pristine CoPcS and GO-COOH. The results are supported by theoretical calculations, which indicate the high PEC conversion of the hybrid system.

Optimization of photogenerated charge transport using type-II heterojunction structure of CoP/BiVO4:WO3 for high efficient solar-driver water splitting

Nguyen Duc Quang et al.

Summary: Bismuth vanadate oxide (BiVO4) is a highly efficient light-absorber metal oxide for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, but its full potential has been hindered by fast charge recombination and poor kinetics for water oxidation. This study demonstrates the successful fabrication of a type-II heterojunction CoP/BiVO4:WO3 structure for efficient PEC water splitting, with WO3 facilitating charge transport and injection while CoP nanoparticles enhance surface charge injection efficiency. The CoP/BiVO4:WO3 photoanode shows a remarkable photocurrent density and stable performance for at least 5 hours, marking a significant improvement compared to bare BiVO4.

Photoelectrochemical biosensing of leukemia gene based on CdS/AuNPs/FeOOH Z-scheme heterojunction and a facile reflective device

Chenglong Sun et al.

Summary: A new Z-scheme heterojunction of CdS/Au nanoparticles/FeOOH was constructed for photoelectrochemical biosensing of leukemia gene fragment b3a2. The CdS quantum dots were cast-coated on the Au nanoparticles/FeOOH electrode, which was modified on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) by hydrothermal synthesis. Hairpin DNA (hDNA) was tethered to the CdS/Au nanoparticles/FeOOH electrode via thioglycolic acid. The target DNA (tDNA, b3a2) could open the hDNA to form a G-tetrad and further form a DNAzyme with chlorohemin. The presence of H2O2 could catalyze the oxidation of 4-chloro-1-naphthol by the horseradish peroxidase-like DNAzyme, resulting in the formation of an insoluble precipitate. The anodic photocurrent in the presence of ascorbic acid was inhibited by the precipitate, enabling the quantitative analysis of the tDNA.

Investigation of an enhanced Z-scheme magnetic recyclable BiVO4/GO/CoFe2O4 photocatalyst with visible-light-driven for highly efficient degradation of antibiotics

Pengfei Zhu et al.

Summary: The BiVO4/GO/CoFe2O4 composite photocatalyst was successfully synthesized and its structure, composition, morphology, and optical properties were investigated. The results show that the composite photocatalyst has good degradation ability under visible light irradiation, and it exhibits good stability. The addition of GO promotes the separation of electrons and holes, while the addition of CoFe2O4 solves the problem of catalyst recycling and increases the specific surface area of the catalyst. The photocatalytic activity of the composite photocatalyst has been significantly improved, which is attributed to the construction of the Z-scheme heterojunction.
