Tolerance of Yarrowia lipolytica to inhibitors commonly found in lignocellulosic hydrolysates

Summary: This study demonstrates the individual and combined effects of inhibitors found in hydrolysate on the growth of Y. lipolytica. By overexpressing native genes XR, XDH, and XK, an engineered xylose consuming strain showed similar inhibitor tolerance in glucose and xylose. The identification of major growth inhibitors in a synthetic hydrolysate will improve the targeted engineering approach to enhance the inhibitor tolerance of Y. lipolytica as a sustainable microbial cell factory.
