Headache: pregnancy and breastfeeding Recommendations of the Spanish Society of Neurology's Headache Study Group

N. Gonzalez-Garcia et al.

Summary: Headache is a common neurological complaint, especially during reproductive age. The Spanish Society of Neurology's Headache Study Group has prepared a series of consensus recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment algorithms for headache during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The recommendations cover the safe pharmacological choices for primary headaches, as well as the diagnostic tests for suspected secondary headache.

Greater occipital nerve block for chronic migraine patients: A meta-analysis

Victor Velasquez-Rimachi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of greater occipital nerve block in patients with chronic migraine. Results showed that GONB combined with local anesthetics could reduce headache frequency and intensity, while adding corticosteroids did not provide additional benefits. Adverse event rates were similar, but due to the low quality of evidence, further large-scale studies are needed to confirm the results.

Narrative review of peripheral nerve blocks for the management of headache

Jennifer Stern et al.

Summary: Peripheral nerve blocks, especially occipital nerve blocks, are effective treatment options for adults with migraine and other headache disorders, with studies showing reductions in headache frequency, intensity, and/or duration. Overall, they are well tolerated with rare serious side effects reported.

Medical treatment of SUNCT and SUNA: a prospective open-label study including single-arm meta-analysis

Giorgio Lambru et al.

Summary: This study evaluated and compared the efficacy of oral and parenteral treatments for SUNCT and SUNA in a real-world setting, finding that most patients responded to medications like lamotrigine and oxcarbazepine. The meta-analysis showed topiramate to be significantly more effective in SUNCT patients compared to SUNA patients.

Efficacy of greater occipital nerve block for pain relief in patients with postdural puncture headache A meta-analysis

Ying-Jen Chang et al.

Summary: The study showed that greater occipital nerve block (GONB) effectively reduced pain levels in patients with postdural puncture headache (PDPH) at 24 hours post-procedure, and also decreased the risk of intervention failure. Further large-scale studies are needed to evaluate the therapeutic benefits of GONB beyond the acute stage.

Summary: GONBs have been found to be effective and safe in treating CGH, with the potential for significant pain reduction. However, larger and randomized studies are still needed to further evaluate their efficacy and safety.
