Clinical Utility of Universal Germline Genetic Testing for Patients With Breast Cancer

Pat W. Whitworth et al.

Summary: This study examines the implications of universal testing for patients with breast cancer and finds that germline genetic testing informs clinical decision-making and provides access to targeted treatments and clinical trials for all patients with breast cancer.

Mainstream consent programs for genetic counseling in cancer patients: A systematic review

Tahlia Scheinberg et al.

Summary: As the demand for germline genetic testing for cancer patients increases, novel methods of genetic counseling are required. Mainstream pathways, conducted by medical oncologists and nurses, have been found acceptable and feasible, with a focus on breast and ovarian cancer patients undergoing BRCA testing. Further research is needed to evaluate the mainstream pathway for men with prostate cancer.

A Population-Based Study of Genes Previously Implicated in Breast Cancer

Chunling Hu et al.

Summary: This study provides population-based estimates of the prevalence and risk of breast cancer associated with pathogenic variants in known cancer-predisposition genes. The results highlight the varying levels of risk associated with different genes, such as high risk for BRCA1 and BRCA2 and moderate risk for PALB2, as well as associations with specific subtypes of breast cancer for genes like RAD51C and RAD51D.

Mainstream genetic testing for breast cancer patients: early experiences from the Parkville Familial Cancer Centre

Catherine Beard et al.

Summary: The mainstream clinical genetic testing program implemented in Australia allows eligible breast cancer patients to directly arrange genetic testing at oncology/surgical appointments, leading to successful uptake, notable pathogenic variant detection rate, reduced burden on FCC, and streamlined process for eligible patients. Further investigation into patient and clinician experiences is needed.

Adjuvant Olaparib for Patients with BRCA1- or BRCA2-Mutated Breast Cancer

Andrew N. J. Tutt et al.

Summary: In patients with high-risk, HER2-negative early breast cancer and germline BRCA1 or BRCA2 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants, adjuvant olaparib after completion of local treatment and neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy was associated with significantly longer survival free of invasive or distant disease than placebo. Olaparib had limited effects on global patient-reported quality of life.

CanRisk Tool-A Web Interface for the Prediction of Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk and the Likelihood of Carrying Genetic Pathogenic Variants

Tim Carver et al.

Summary: The CanRisk Tool is a next-generation web interface for the latest BOADICEA risk model, providing a user-friendly platform for multifactorial breast and ovarian cancer risk predictions. With over 3,100 account registrations and 98,000 risk calculations within the first 9 months of launch, it has shown significant impact in boosting accessibility for healthcare professionals and researchers.
