Summary: This article critically reviews recent literature on interventions in medical education aimed at promoting professional identity formation (PIF). The majority of studies focus on undergraduate medical education and utilize reflective writing as the dominant mode of student activity. The findings suggest a predominant individualistic approach to PIF, although alternative perspectives, such as socialization and the incorporation of both individual and social influences, also exist.
