An origami inspired quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator using a novel truss-spring based stack Miura-ori structure

Kan Ye et al.

Summary: In this study, an origami-inspired vibration isolator with quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) property is proposed using a truss-spring based stack Miura-ori (TS-SMO) structure. The unique structure uses coil spring sets to replace deformable creases, improving physical realization in engineering applications. Nonlinear force response and QZS feature are achieved through geometric nonlinearity and specific Poisson's ratio profile, with isolation performance discussed under variable viscous damping effects.

Harmonic-Balance-Based parameter estimation of nonlinear structures in the presence of Multi-Harmonic response and force

Javad Taghipour et al.

Summary: Testing nonlinear structures with harmonic forces can lead to multi-harmonic responses, with higher harmonics in both force and responses being significant. The study introduces an identification method that considers both multi-harmonic forces and responses, aiming for accuracy in complex nonlinear systems. The method demonstrates the importance of including higher harmonics in the identification process to improve model estimation.

Xigang Chen et al.

Summary: The new high precision ultra-compact decoupled XYZO motion stage designed with flexure hinges consists of three components: serial-parallel dual-stage amplifier, Z-shape motion steering mechanism, and motion decoupled mechanism. It offers advantages such as compact structure, large output decoupling motion, and XYZO four axes output displacement. The stage's kinetostatic analysis, finite-element analysis (FEA), and prototype experiments verify the design objectives.

Torsional vibrations in heavy-truck powertrains with flywheel attached centrifugal pendulum vibration absorbers

Erik R. Gomez et al.

Summary: A study on the application of a nonlinear centrifugal pendulum vibration absorber with normal-force dependant friction loss in a downspeeded powertrain of a heavy-truck is conducted. The performance of the CPVA is affected by system dynamics, and downspeeding of the engine can reduce CO2 emissions but increase torsional vibration and noise, which can be mitigated by using CPVA.

Flexural wave attenuation by metamaterial beam with compliant quasi-zero-stiffness resonators

Changqi Cai et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel metamaterial beam with an embedded quasi-zero-stiffness resonator to achieve wave attenuation in very low-frequency band gaps. The configuration of the quasi-zero-stiffness resonator is developed using compliant mechanism with design optimization, and the characteristic of quasi zero stiffness is achieved by proper pre-compression. The dispersion relations of the metamaterial beam are derived using the transfer matrix method, and the dynamic responses of the beam are obtained using the spectral element method to evaluate the transmittance of the flexural wave. Experimental investigation verifies the formation mechanism of the band gaps, demonstrating very low-frequency band gaps. Therefore, the QZS metamaterial beam holds promise for low wave attenuation.

Research on the line-arc-line constant-torque flexure hinge (LAL-CTFH) based on improved pseudo-rigid-body model (PRBM)

Lifang Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of constant-torque flexure hinge based on line-arc-line segment (LAL-CTFH) is designed to enlarge the proportion of constant-torque output. The LAL-CTFH exhibits good constant-torque output performance, simple structure, and easy manufacturing. The torque-angle characteristics of LAL-CTFH are analyzed using an improved pseudo-rigid-body model method, and the method is verified by finite element analysis. The optimized model shows promising results in terms of constant torque output, confirming the feasibility of the design scheme and the validity of the theoretical analysis.

Summary: This paper presents a compact WQZS isolator designed by connecting a pair of repulsive magnet rings and a space-saving wave spring in parallel. Experimental results show that the WQZS isolator outperforms linear counterparts in reducing vibration frequency and peak transmissibility, making it suitable for low-frequency vibration isolation in space-limited environments.
