Vibration response of symmetric and sigmoid functionally graded beam rested on elastic foundation under moving point mass

Ismail Esen et al.

Summary: This article investigates the dynamic responses of symmetric and sigmoid FG Timoshenko beam subjected to moving mass. The study explores the influences of gradation type, gradation index, elastic foundation stiffnesses, inertia, and variable velocity of the moving mass on the dynamic response. The Hamilton principle and finite element method are used for modeling and solving the system.

THERMAL BUCKLING AND BENDING ANALYSES OF CARBON FOAM BEAMS SANDWICHED BY COMPOSITE FACES UNDER AXIAL COMPRESSION

Babak Safaei et al.

Summary: The performance of a sandwich beam structure under thermal load and axial compression was investigated, and the temperature distribution was validated through finite element analysis. Different material combinations were used to reduce thermal strain and heat flux, with the best combination identified to reduce thermal stresses caused by temperature.

EFFECT OF STATIC AND HARMONIC LOADING ON THE HONEYCOMB SANDWICH BEAM BY USING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

Babak Safaei et al.

Summary: This paper presents a proposed honeycomb core shape and compares it with a normal hexagonal shape core in a sandwich beam. Through finite element simulation and theoretical analysis, it is found that the proposed core shape has less deformation under high frequency and better flexural stiffness and stress resistance.

Breathing Crack Localization in Structures Based on Principal Component Analysis of Forced Vibration Responses

J. Prawin

Summary: A novel unsupervised damage diagnostic technique based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is proposed for breathing crack identification in structures excited by harmonic excitation. This approach utilizes the residues obtained from PCA of the forced acceleration-time history responses of the structure for breathing crack identification.

Nonlinear vibration analysis of a cantilever beam with multiple breathing edge cracks

Masoud Kharazan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the nonlinear vibration behavior of a cantilever beam with multiple breathing cracks, with calculations of stiffness, evaluation of damping variation, and simulation of bilinear behavior using a polynomial function. Results show that beams with a higher number of cracks or deeper ones exhibit obvious softening behavior, leading to a more significant jumping in the response.

Breathing crack damage diagnostic strategy using improved MFCC features

J. Prawin

Summary: A new two-stage damage diagnostic technique using improved Mel frequency Cepstral Analysis is proposed for identifying breathing cracks in engineering structures. The method employs improvements such as customizing the estimation of Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients and utilizing Mahanabolis distance-based measure for crack identification. Experimental and numerical studies show the approach's capability to detect and localize multiple cracks even under varying environmental conditions.

Frequency-dependent damped vibrations of multifunctional foam plates sandwiched and integrated by composite faces

Babak Safaei

Summary: This paper investigates the damped vibrational behavior of a lightweight sandwich plate subjected to a periodic load within a limited time, utilizing structural damping to study material properties. The results show that the use of foam in PCSPs significantly reduces vibration amplitudes and improves fundamental frequency, while the use of [45, -45](2) composite layers offers PCSPs the highest natural frequency and lowest vibration amplitudes.
