Free Vibration Characteristics of Rotating Functionally Graded Porous Circular Cylindrical Shells with Different Boundary Conditions

Xuan-Hung Dang et al.

Summary: This study presents an analytical analysis of the free vibration of rotating functionally graded porous circular cylindrical shells. The effects of porous material properties, centrifugal and Coriolis forces are taken into account. The results are validated through comparisons with previous studies and the influences of various parameters on natural frequency and critical speed are examined.

A comprehensive study on the coupled multi-mode vibrations of cylindrical shells

Youheng Dong et al.

Summary: This work aims to accurately calculate the vibration characteristics of cylindrical shells under various classical boundary conditions, considering in-plane inertias and nonlinear coupled multi-mode vibrations. Various equations and mode functions are proposed, and a unified nonlinear differential equation of motion is established. The investigation includes the analysis of high dimensional differential equation with nonlinearities.

Optimal location of FG actuator/sensor patches on an FG rotating conical shell for active control of vibration

Mohammad Jafari Niasar et al.

Summary: In this paper, the optimization of piezoelectric patch positions in an FG-truncated conical shell is conducted to improve vibration performance. A new optimization trend on a rotating cone is used for the first time, and the piezoelectric material is functionally graded. The vibration model is based on classical theory and the governing equation is obtained using the Lagrange equation. The results show that the best position for piezoelectric placement is between the middle and the base of the cone.

Conical shell vibration control with distributed piezoelectric sensor and actuator layer

Rasa Jamshidi et al.

Summary: This study investigates vibration reduction of a simply supported conical shell with distributed piezoelectric sensor and actuator layers. Different piezoelectric layer distributions were considered and a PD controller was used to reduce shell vibration. Results show that derivative controllers can affect natural frequencies more and circumferential distribution has more effects on the dynamic of the conical shell.

Free vibration analysis of a porous rotor integrated with regular patterns of circumferentially distributed functionally graded piezoelectric patches on inner and outer surfaces

Yaser Heidari et al.

Summary: This study investigates dynamic characteristics of a novel porous cylindrical hollow rotor using the first-order shear deformation theory and Hamilton's principle. By placing functionally graded piezoelectric patches on its inner and outer surfaces and subjecting them to applied electric potential as sensor and actuator, the model is analyzed for mode shapes, natural frequencies, and critical speeds. The accuracy and validity of the work is verified through comprehensive comparisons with previous references, and a parametric study is presented to demonstrate the influence of various parameters on the structure.
