Potential use of natural saline pasture for grazing lambs: Effect on digestibility, growth performances, carcass and meat quality

Mouna Friha et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a natural saline pasture on digestibility, intake, growth, carcass traits, and meat quality of lambs. The results showed that rearing lambs on saline pasture, with moderate concentrate supplementation, led to acceptable growth performances, leaner carcass, and higher nutritional meat quality.

Performance, carcass traits, physicochemical properties and fatty acids composition of lamb's meat fed diets with marine microalgae meal (Schizochytrium sp.)

Roberta de Lima Valenca et al.

Summary: The inclusion of marine microalgae meal in the diet of lambs can affect dry matter intake, average daily gain, ruminal papilla height and width, meat composition, and feeding efficiency. However, it does not significantly affect carcass weight and yield, and most of the variables of physicochemical composition. It can improve EPA, DHA, Sigma n-3, and CLA concentrations, while also reducing meat total cholesterol.

Trans-10 18:1 in ruminant meats: A review

Susana P. Alves et al.

Summary: Industrial trans fatty acids have been phased out due to their promotion of cardiovascular disease, leaving ruminant-derived trans fatty acids as the main source. While ruminant TFA are generally considered to have minimal health effects, certain isomers in high levels can compromise the nutritional quality.

Microalgal-based feed: promising alternative feedstocks for livestock and poultry production

Imen Saadaoui et al.

Summary: The review discusses the potential of using microalgae as feed for domestic animals, highlighting their rich nutrients and prebiotic effects. Recommendations are made to enhance the assimilation of biomolecules in animals fed with microalgal biomass, and economic trade-offs in large-scale cultivation are emphasized for further investigation to reduce costs.
