Deep residual network enabled smart hyperspectral image analysis and its application to monitoring moisture, size distribution and contents of four bioactive compounds of granules in the fluid-bed granulation process of Guanxinning tablets

Yi Tao et al.

Summary: A smart hyperspectral image analysis methodology based on the ResNet algorithm was used to monitor the moisture content, size distribution, and contents of four bioactive compounds in the fluid-bed granulation process of Guanxinning tablets. The ResNet quantitative calibration models showed high R2c and R2p values, indicating good predictability. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using hyperspectral image analysis to monitor the physical and chemical properties of Guanxinning tablets.

High-resolution thermography and modelling allows for improved characterization of drying sessile single droplets

N. M. Eijkelboom et al.

Summary: In this study, high-resolution thermography and high-speed camera monitoring were used to characterize the drying behavior of single droplets containing solutes. A heat and mass transfer-based model accurately predicted the drying behavior of the droplets and explained the remaining differences. Tracking temperature with thermography allows for a better understanding of drying behavior and morphology development, leading to improved models for spray drying behavior.

A feasibility study on improving the non-invasive detection accuracy of bottled Shuanghuanglian oral liquid using near infrared spectroscopy

Pengdi Cui et al.

Summary: The study aims to improve the accuracy of near-infrared spectroscopy detection of Shuanghuanglian oral liquid in glass bottles without damaging the primary packaging. The multi-position spectral modeling (MPSM) method was adopted to correct spectral variation and find the best measuring position. The results showed that the MPSM method improved the prediction accuracy of baicalin, total flavonoids, and soluble solid contents compared to the traditional single-position spectral modeling method.

Spray drying experiments and CFD simulation of guava juice formulation

Aldo Benavides-Moran et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a CFD approach to model the spray-drying of guava juice formulation, incorporating the characteristic drying rate curve. The computational domain is based on a small production spray-dryer, and the URANS k-omega SST and Scale-Adapted Simulation turbulence models are used to compute the flow field. Calibrating the model with experimental data is crucial for accurate simulations.

Dehumidified Air-Assisted Spray-Drying of Cloudy Beetroot Juice at Low Temperature

Aleksandra Jedlinska et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physicochemical properties of powders obtained by spray drying cloudy beetroot juice using dehumidified air with or without carriers. Results indicated that drying without carriers at low temperatures (90 or 130 degrees C) was possible and resulted in powders with satisfactory properties. The addition of carriers led to lower betalain loss but lower overall process yields compared to powders without carriers. Best process yields were achieved for powders without carriers at 130 degrees C and 90 degrees C.
