Associations between breastfeeding intention, breastfeeding practices and post-natal depression during the COVID-19 pandemic: A multi-country cross-sectional study

Yan-Shing Chang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the associations between breastfeeding intention, breastfeeding practices, and post-natal depression (PND) during COVID-19. A cross-sectional internet-based survey found that women who intended to breastfeed during pregnancy had lower odds of having PND, while those who actually breastfed had higher odds compared to non-intenders. Additionally, women who breastfed for a shorter duration than planned had higher odds of experiencing PND. The findings highlight the importance of addressing women's breastfeeding intention and providing tailored support to meet their breastfeeding needs and care for their mental health during and beyond the pandemic.

Maternal Schizophrenia, Skin-to-Skin Contact, and Infant Feeding Initiation

Clare L. Taylor et al.

Summary: Mothers with schizophrenia are less likely to have skin-to-skin contact and initiate breastfeeding immediately after birth, which may impact maternal-child bonding and breastfeeding establishment. These mothers may need individualized support to promote WHO recommended hospital practices in the early post-natal period.
