Improvement of hot deformability of an optimized Nb-Ti-Si based alloy: Twining induced plasticity

Qibin Wang et al.

Summary: The dynamic softening behavior of silicides in the optimized Nb-24Ti-16Si-2Al-4Fe-5V alloy during hot deformation was investigated. A new softening mechanism was observed in the alloy, where the stress concentration around the small-sized beta-(Nb, X)5Si3 grain excites twinning in the Nb4FeSi grain, leading to twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP). This TWIP mechanism significantly improves the hot deformability of the alloy, while the contribution of large-sized beta-(Nb, X)5Si3 to softening relies on its own continuous dynamic recrystallization, weakening the TWIP activity of adjacent Nb4FeSi grain.

Orientation dependence of microcosmic plasticity and toughness in Nb-Si alloys

Zuheng Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, the nano-hardness and elastic modulus on different crystal planes in Nb-Si alloys were investigated using nanoindentation, and the relationship between microcosmic fracture toughness and crystal orientation was predicted. A crystallographic model of the phase boundary between Nbss and α-Nb5Si3 was established based on EBSD analysis, and the deformation mechanisms of Nbss were explained using the Easy-slip model.

Dynamic recrystallization behavior and strengthening mechanism of quasi-precipitate-free dilute Mg-Bi-Sn alloy

Lin Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a dilute Mg-0.5Bi-0.5Sn alloy was extruded at a low temperature to investigate its dynamic recrystallization behavior and strengthening mechanism. The results revealed the occurrence of different types of dynamic recrystallization during the extrusion process, and the alloy exhibited a good balance between strength and ductility.

Zr addition-induced transitions of deformation mechanism at high temperatures of Nb-Si-Ti based multi-alloys: Super-dislocations in y- Nb5Si3

Chengtong Ye et al.

Summary: This work investigates the mechanisms of two different deformation and fracture modes at 1250 degrees C of directional solidified Nb-Si-Ti based multi-alloys to explore the influence of Zr element on high temperature properties. The 5Zr alloy exhibits the least drop of tensile strength and shows the best comprehensive property of plasticity and tensile strength. Zr reduces a-Nb5Si3 and weakens the load-carrying capacity at high temperatures, while introducing y-Nb5Si3 to improve the plasticity and provide significant work hardening to recover the tensile strength at 1250 degrees C.

Yixin An et al.

Summary: The hot deformation mechanism of a Ti-2.5Zr-2Al titanium alloy was investigated using the double-cone compression test, providing a theoretical basis for designing an optimal alpha+beta forging process. Synchronous enhancement of hot deformation capacity and properties of Nb-24Ti-16Si-2Al of Fe and V

Qibin Wang et al.

Summary: The synergistic effects of Fe and V on microstructural evolution and properties of Nb-24Ti-16Si-2Al alloys are investigated in order to improve the thermal deformation ability of Nb-Si alloy and increase the fracture toughness. The addition of Fe and V suppresses the formation of (Nb, X)3Si and introduces a new silicide Nb4FeSi. Fe is primarily enriched in Nb4FeSi phase, while V is mainly dissolved in Nbss and Nb4FeSi phases. The co-addition of Fe and V significantly enhances the room temperature fracture toughness, and the hot deformation behavior exhibits excellent ability close to the melting point of Nb4FeSi. The composition homogenization and refinement of the coarse silicides are achieved after hot deformation.
