Superb strength and ductility balance of a Co-free medium-entropy alloy with dual heterogeneous structures

Wenjie Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Co-free non-equiatomic Ni46Cr23Fe23Al4Ti4 medium-entropy alloy with dual heterogeneous structures was successfully fabricated, exhibiting remarkable strength-ductility synergy properties. The main mechanisms contributing to strength enhancement were precipitation hardening and hetero-deformation induced hardening. The alloy not only showed high strength and excellent ductility, but also had high work-hardening capacity.

Mechanical and tribological properties of (FeCoNi)88-x(AlTi)12Mox high-entropy alloys

Chaojie Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, we successfully prepared high-entropy alloys (HEAs) with good comprehensive properties using vacuum arc melting technology. The influence of Mo content on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and tribological properties of the HEAs was systematically studied. The results showed that the Mo1.0 HEA exhibited the best mechanical properties, while all HEAs showed excellent friction and wear properties.

The effect of Al/Ti ratio on the evolution of precipitates and their effects on mechanical properties for Ni35(CoCrFe)55AlxTi10-x high entropy alloys

Liyuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of Ni3(Al, Ti) precipitates and their effects on the mechanical properties in high entropy alloys. It is found that spherical precipitates within the grains act as effective barriers to dislocation slip, resulting in high strength. However, increasing the Al content reduces the volume fraction of the precipitates, leading to a decrease in yield strength. Al, Ti, and Ni segregate to the grain boundaries, forming L12 precipitates and Heusler phases, which affect the ductility of the alloy.

The study of mechanical and tribology properties at room- and high-temperature in a (NiCoFe)86.5(AlTi)12(WMoV)1.5 high-entropy alloy

Chaojie Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, a (NiCoFe)(86.5)(AlTi)(12)(WMoV)(1.5) high-entropy alloy with excellent mechanical and tribological properties was prepared using vacuum arc melting technology. The alloy exhibited ductile fracture at ambient temperature and cleavage fracture at high temperature. The wear mechanisms of the alloy included abrasive wear, oxidative wear, delamination wear, and adhesive wear. The alloy's enhanced properties were attributed to the relatively high-volume fraction of nano-L1(2) precipitates, which hindered dislocation movement, and the presence of annealing twins, which played a role in grain refinement. The formation of a tough oxide enamel layer on the worn surface greatly improved the wear performance of the alloy at high temperatures.

Improving mechanical properties of (Co1.5FeNi)88.5Ti6Al4R1.5 (R = Hf, W, Nb, Ta, Mo, V) multi-component high-entropy alloys via multi-stage strain hardening strengthening

Jijie Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the phase structure, microstructure, and mechanical properties of high entropy alloys (HEAs) were investigated. It was found that the addition of refractory elements did not change the phase structure of the alloys but improved their strength. Among them, the alloy with Ta element exhibited the best comprehensive mechanical properties and showed excellent strength-ductility combination.

Development of the γ′ phase strengthened high-temperature high-entropy alloys with excellent mechanical properties

Chenglei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of novel gamma' phase strengthened Ti6Al6-based HEAs with six different alloying elements were examined. The presence of impurity phases and the microstructure of the alloys were investigated using various characterization techniques. The addition of W, Mo, and V elements improved the strength-plasticity combination of the HEAs at both room temperature and high temperature. The peak position of the alloys shifted to the left with the addition of W, Mo, and V elements. The coherent relationship between the gamma' precipitates phase and the FCC matrix phase contributed to the increased strength of the alloys without sacrificing plasticity.

High density of strong yet deformable intermetallic nanorods leads to an excellent room temperature strength-ductility combination in a high entropy alloy

Bharat Gwalani et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new microstructural template for high entropy alloys with a high density of ordered multi-component intermetallic nanorods, resulting in exceptional room temperature yield strength and good tensile ductility. The thermo-mechanical processing by isothermal annealing has been proven effective in producing the nanorods within refined FCC grains, leading to significantly improved mechanical properties.
