Evolution of short-range order and its effects on the plastic deformation behavior of single crystals of the equiatomic Cr-Co-Ni medium-entropy alloy

Le Li et al.

Summary: Short-range ordering (SRO) in the equiatomic Cr-Co-Ni medium-entropy alloy (MEA) was studied using electrical resistivity measurements and mechanical tests. SRO was found to increase gradually with time during isothermal annealing and higher temperatures led to shorter saturation time but higher saturation resistivity. Plastic deformation behavior and stress-strain curves were not significantly affected by SRO, indicating SRO has little influence on mechanical properties.

Data-driven electron-diffraction approach reveals local short-range ordering in CrCoNi with ordering effects

Haw-Wen Hsiao et al.

Summary: This study reveals the impacts of short-range ordering on chemical homogeneity and dislocation slip in a CrCoNi alloy using a diffraction data-mining analysis. The results show the existence of two types of short-range ordering in nanoclusters, which significantly affect the mechanical strength of the material. These findings provide important opportunities for atomistic-structure study and design in concentrated alloys.

Direct observation of chemical short-range order in a medium-entropy alloy

Xuefei Chen et al.

Summary: The study provides direct experimental evidence of chemical short-range atomic-scale ordering (CSRO) in a VCoNi medium-entropy alloy through diffraction and electron microscopy analysis. The research demonstrates that using specific crystallographic directions can reveal CSRO in face-centred-cubic VCoNi concentrated solution, offering insights into atomic packing configuration and dislocation interactions enhanced by CSROs.

Martensitic Transformation in FexMn80-xCo10Cr10 High-Entropy Alloy

P. Singh et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys and medium-entropy alloys are unique materials in which property relations can be controlled through alloying and chemical disorder. Research has shown that in Fe-Mn-based alloys, the energy difference between face-centered cubic and hexagonal-close-packed phases directly correlates with martensitic transformation and chemical short-range order.

Simultaneous deformation twinning and martensitic transformation in CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy at high temperatures

S. Picak et al.

Summary: High temperature equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was used to activate simultaneous twinning-induced (TWIP) and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) in the CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA), resulting in a high strength level and uniform plastic deformation ability. This phenomenon was attributed to the high strength levels applied via ECAP and the relatively low stacking fault energy of the present HEA.
