Corrosion and friction resistance of TiVCrZrWNx high entropy ceramics coatings prepared by magnetron sputtering

Yanxin Si et al.

Summary: TiVCrZrWNx high entropy ceramics coatings were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering, and the microstructure, mechanical properties, friction, and corrosion resistance of the coatings deposited at different nitrogen flow rates were studied. The results showed that the microstructure of the coatings strongly depended on the nitrogen flow rate, with a stable FCC structure formed at a nitrogen flow rate of 24 sccm. The hardness and corrosion resistance of the coatings increased with the nitrogen flow rate, and the formation of V2O5 during sliding in seawater reduced the coefficient of friction.

Summary: In this study, (AlCrNbSiTi)N high entropy alloy coatings were prepared using reactive radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. The effects of nitrogen fluxes on the properties of the coatings were examined. The results showed that the nitrogen flux had a significant influence on the hardness, adhesion strength, wear rate, corrosion resistance, and machining performance of the coatings. The findings contribute to the optimization of coating design and preparation processes.

Influence of the nitrogen content on the structure and properties of MoNbTaVW high entropy alloy thin films

Ao Xia et al.

Summary: The influence of nitrogen incorporation on the chemical composition, structure, mechanical, and electrical properties of refractory (MoNbTaVW)(1-x)N-x high entropy alloy thin films is investigated in this study. The structural change from body centered cubic to face centered cubic with increasing nitrogen content resulted in increased hardness but also material embrittlement. The films were synthesized by two different physical vapor deposition methods onto silicon and polyimide substrates.

Summary: This study reports the process to fabricate powder of high-entropy carbide (TiTaNbZrHf)C using two-step high-energy ball milling. The high-entropy carbide phase was obtained through milling metallic precursors and carbon, showing thermal stability up to 1200 degrees C. The process includes the conversion of metallic precursors, the reaction diffusion of carbon, and the formation of high-entropy carbide phase from high-entropy alloy and carbon.
