The interaction between interstitial elements and screw dislocations in hexagonal titanium has been determined using ab initio calculations. O, N, and C act as repulsive obstacles, while H is attracted to the dislocation, especially to the pyramidal stacking faults forming the dislocation core. Thus, the studied solutes provoke different strengthening mechanisms, such as dislocation cross-slip or binding.
