Construction of biomass derived carbon quantum dots modified TiO2 photocatalysts with superior photocatalytic activity for methylene blue degradation

Yanling Jin et al.

Summary: This study utilizes N-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) derived from spent coffee grounds to decorate TiO2, enhancing the absorption of visible light and improving the electron transfer and separation process. The TiO2 modified with 3 wt% NCQDs shows a 2.25 times faster photodegradation rate for methylene blue (MB) compared to pristine TiO2.

Metal-organic framework derived multi-functionalized and co-doped TiO2/C nanocomposites for excellent visible-light photocatalysis

Mian Zahid Hussain et al.

Summary: Multi-functionalized and co-doped TiO2/C nanocomposites were synthesized via the pyrolysis of Ti-MOFs under different gaseous atmospheres. The gaseous atmosphere during pyrolysis significantly affected the structural and optical properties of the derived TiO2/C composites. The Ti-MOFs derived TiO2/C composites exhibited enhanced adsorption and photodegradation performance compared to commercial TiO2. The highest photodegradation activity was achieved by the N-O-TiO2/C composite derived from NH2-MIL-125(Ti) under visible light.

Photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline Fe3+-doped anatase TiO2 hollow spheres in a methylene blue solution under visible-light irradiation

Nattakan Kanjana et al.

Summary: Fe3+-doped anatase TiO2 hollow spheres were prepared using carbon sphere templates, and the effects of Fe content on their properties were investigated. The results showed that the crystallinity and crystal sizes of the samples decreased with increasing Fe dopant levels, and the defect states of Fe4+, Fe3+, Fe2+, and oxygen vacancies directly influenced the optical behavior, electrical conductivity, and photocatalytic activity of the Fe:THs. The hollow spheres with an Fe doping level of 0.25 mol% exhibited the highest photodegradation efficiency under visible-light irradiation, attributed to their large surface area and high pore volume.

Manipulating a TiO2-graphene-Ta3N5 heterojunction for efficient Z-scheme photocatalytic pure water splitting

Fangyong Hou et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of a titanium dioxide-graphene-tantalum nitride hybrid photocatalyst through an ultrasonic-hydrothermal method. Compared to pristine titanium dioxide and tantalum nitride, the prepared hybrid photocatalyst exhibits significantly enhanced performance in photocatalytic water splitting, attributed to improved visible light utilization and charge transfer behavior. It was found that water splitting is achieved through a Z-scheme mechanism, with graphene acting as a bridge for electron transfer between titanium dioxide and tantalum nitride.

Linsong Wu et al.

Summary: This study prepared Ag-TiO2 photocatalysts with different silver contents and applied them to cement mortar. The results showed that 2% Ag-TiO2 had the highest photocatalytic activity under UV light, while 5% Ag-TiO2 had the highest photocatalytic activity under solar light. Photocatalytic mortar prepared by the spraying method exhibited high photocatalytic performance without affecting the mechanical properties of the mortar.

Co3O4 Nanoparticles Accommodated Mesoporous TiO2 framework as an Excellent Photocatalyst with Enhanced Photocatalytic Properties

Maha Alhaddad et al.

Summary: This study focuses on designing an efficient heterojunction photocatalyst using mesoporous TiO2 framework and Co3O4 NPs for the degradation of antibiotics under visible light. The synthesized 1.5% Co3O4/TiO2 nanocomposite showed the highest degradation performance for ciprofloxacin (CIP) and significantly increased the apparent rate constant, demonstrating excellent stability over five cycles. The S-scheme Co3O4/TiO2 p-n heterojunction construction enhances the generation of active oxidative species for efficient photodegradation of CIP.
