Layered materials and their heterojunctions for supercapacitor applications: a review

Tathagata Kar et al.

Summary: This review examines the potential of layered materials in supercapacitors, discussing their properties and stability in various electrolytes, as well as the impact of heterojunctions/composites on performance. It also explains the dependence of capacitive behavior on electrode morphology, crystal structure, and electrolyte type. The future perspective on the design and commercial applications of these materials is also presented.

Raman Spectroscopy Characterization of Amorphous Coke Generated in Industrial Processes

Claire Chunjuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This article presents examples of real-world applications of Raman spectroscopy. It systematically analyzes the intensity variation of D and G bands in relation to changes in excitation laser energy for characterizing and comparing coke species from different industrial processes. Findings indicate varying degrees of sp(2) and sp(3) hybridized bonding structures in amorphous carbon collected from different industrial processes and heavy carbonaceous deposits generated by industrial catalysts. This spectroscopic methodology is practical and highly beneficial in identifying coke formation mechanisms in industrial processes, as well as supporting design strategies to reduce undesired coke formation on industrial catalysts.

KOH-Activated Hollow ZIF-8 Derived Porous Carbon: Nanoarchitectured Control for Upgraded Capacitive Deionization and Supercapacitor

Minjun Kim et al.

Summary: The synergistic effects of hollow nano-architecture and high specific surface area of hollow activated carbons (HACs) were reported to significantly enhance the performance of supercapacitors (SC) and capacitive deionization (CDI). By optimizing nanopore distribution and designing large macropores, significant improvements in capacitance and desalination performance can be achieved.
