Microwave synthesis of duplex α/β-SiAlON ceramic cutting inserts: Modifying m, n, z values, synthesis temperature, and excess Y2O3 synthesis additive

Dongbo Hong et al.

Summary: In this study, duplex alpha/beta-SiAlON ceramic cutting inserts were synthesized by microwave sintering. The effects of different parameters on the properties, such as phase assemblage, microstructure, mechanical properties, and cutting performance, were investigated. The results showed that optimal parameters led to improved performance, while excessive additives resulted in reduced performance. Ultimately, a cutting insert with optimal properties was obtained.

Sodium-based alkali-activated foams from self-ignition coal gangue by facile microwave foaming route

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a high value-added strategy of using coal gangue to produce porous ceramic materials. By a facile microwave foaming route, alkali-activated coal gangue foams were fabricated using self-ignition coal gangue without additional minerals. The properties of the foams were significantly affected by the alkaline concentration and curing condition, and the foams with 100% coal gangue showed potential for cleaner productions.
