Improved photocatalytic activity of SnO2-TiO2 nanocomposite thin films prepared by low-temperature sol-gel method

Ksenija Maver et al.

Summary: The objective of this research was to investigate the improvement of photocatalytic activity in pure TiO2 through SnO2 modification. The study found that when TiO2 was modified with SnO2 in a concentration range of 0.1-1 mol.%, the photocatalytic activity was enhanced by 30%. However, at higher SnO2 loadings, the activity decreased. Various characterization techniques were used to explain the mechanisms behind the improved and hindered performance of the SnO2-modified TiO2 photocatalysts.

Tailoring superhydrophilicity and photocatalysis of sputter deposited TiO2/ WO3 thin films on super white glass by process and chemical composition optimization

Sheng-Kuei Chiu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the deposition of TiO2/WO3 nanocomposite thin films onto super white glass and explores the optimization of photocatalytic performance through processing controls and adjustments of the film's chemical composition. The results demonstrate the fabrication of an anatase-dominated, mesoporous coating that exhibits the highest level of superhydrophilicity and photocatalysis, making it suitable for self-cleaning cover glass applications. The mechanism behind the superior photoactivity of this film is clarified through atomic-scaled analyses.

Improved adsorption and photocatalytic removal of methylene blue by MoO3 thin films: Role of the sputtering power, film thickness, and sputtering working pressure

M. Perez-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of sputtering power, film thickness, and sputtering working pressure on the adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity of MoO3 thin films. The results indicated that the samples deposited at 60 W and 12.0 mTorr with a thickness of 400 nm exhibited the maximum adsorption and photocatalytic performances. Raman spectroscopy and photoacoustic spectroscopy experiments confirmed strong MB adsorption on the film surface, with a hypsochromic shift indicating MB aggregation on the MoO3 surface.

Manipulating the electronic and photocatalytic properties of anatase TiO2 by metalloid doping

Yafei Zhao et al.

Summary: By using first principles study, this research investigated the crystal structure, formation energy, electronic structures and photocatalytic properties of metalloid doped TiO2. The results showed that Si and Te doped TiO2 exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity in the visible light spectrum due to their high visible light absorption efficiency, low photogenerated carrier recombination rate, and more catalytic active sites, providing essential guidance for developing TiO2-based visible light photocatalysis.

VIS-active TiO2 - graphene oxide composite thin films for photocatalytic applications

Ioana Tismanar et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel method for depositing VIS-active composite photocatalytic thin films based on TiO2 and GO, combining two up-scalable techniques. The effects of composite film stability, morphology, and crystallinity on photocatalytic efficiency were investigated, showing that roughness and crystallinity play key roles in determining efficiency. The thin films demonstrated good stability in aqueous pollutant environments, with no wash-out effect observed in experimental results.
