Distribution and assessment of heavy metals in suspended particles in the Sundarban mangrove river, Bangladesh

Xiaochun Zou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution and assessment of five heavy metals in SPM from Passur River and its estuary in Sundarban. The results showed that the heavy metal content and distribution in SPM are mainly influenced by runoff input, hydrodynamic process, and the interaction process of salt and fresh water in estuaries. The evaluation results indicated a low level of pollution. Studies on heavy metals in SPM are of great significance for comprehensively evaluating regional pollution status and carrying out early warning.

Freshwater suspended particulate matter-Key components and processes in floc formation and dynamics

Helene Walch et al.

Summary: Freshwater suspended particulate matter (SPM) is composed of complex floc-like aggregate structures, consisting of minerals and organic matter. These aggregates provide habitat for microbes, serve as food for larger organisms, and play a significant role in carbon and nutrient cycles. The composition, structure, size, and concentration of SPM flocs can vary spatially and temporally.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential health and ecological risks of heavy metal pollution in surface waters and sediments in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone, China. The results showed that heavy metal concentrations decreased over time, with arsenic posing the main carcinogenic risk to the environment.

Heavy metal contamination status in Greek surface waters: A review with application and evaluation of pollution indices

Ioannis Karaouzas et al.

Summary: The overall heavy metal contamination status of surface water bodies in Greece generally meets environmental quality standards, but sediment heavy metal concentrations often exceed guidelines. A few rivers and lakes are moderately to highly contaminated by heavy metals.

Behaviour and distribution of arsenic in seawater and suspended particulate matter in the adjacent area of the Changjiang Estuary during summer and autumn

Shuai Yuan et al.

Summary: The distribution and partitioning of arsenic in the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent areas during summer and autumn were strongly influenced by riverine input and water masses from the East China Sea, displaying significant seasonal variations. Arsenic concentrations showed a decreasing trend from inshore to offshore, while PAs concentrations were positively correlated with SPM and turbidity.

Pollutant source, ecological and human health risks assessment of heavy metals in soils from coal mining areas in Xinjiang, China

Haiwei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the pollution characteristics and sources of heavy metal elements in the Zhundong mining area in Xinjiang for the first time, as well as evaluating the health risks and influencing factors using Monte Carlo simulation. Results showed that coal combustion, transportation, and atmospheric dust were significant sources of heavy metal pollution in the area. The research contributes to better soil management, remediation, and pollution control in Xinjiang's mining areas.
