Living and dead foraminifera assemblages as environmental indicators in the Almada River Estuary, Ilheus, northeastern Brazil

Lazaro Laut et al.

Summary: Analyses of living and dead foraminifera assemblages revealed the distribution patterns of different species in relation to environmental parameters and classified the estuary into five regions. This study efficiently characterized the environmental conditions of the Almada River Estuary and provided a basis for understanding natural or anthropic impacts on this ecosystem.

Benthic foraminifera from the Southeastern Mediterranean shelf: Dead assemblages and living-dead comparisons recording consequences of Nile River damming

Simona Avnaim-Katav et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of the Nile River damming on the recent benthic ecology in the southeastern Levantine Basin of the Mediterranean Sea. The differences between dead benthic foraminiferal assemblages and living ones suggest ongoing human activity as a possible cause.

Living and dead foraminiferal assemblages of the last decades from Kveithola Trough: Taphonomic processes and ecological highlights

Viviana Maria Gamboa-Sojo et al.

Summary: By examining the benthic foraminiferal assemblages in the Kveithola Trough, it was found that the living foraminiferal fauna quickly adapts to circulation changes and organic matter burial, while the dead assemblages did not show significant environmental changes in the past century. The presence of certain foraminiferal species in dead assemblages but not in living ones may indicate ongoing warming in the Arctic area, while preservation of foraminiferal tests may bias paleontological results.

Extreme Meteorological Events in a Coastal Lagoon Ecosystem: The Ria de Aveiro Lagoon (Portugal) Case Study

Jose Fortes Lopes et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of extreme weather events on the hydrodynamics and ecosystem of the Ria de Aveiro, finding that these events may cause local and transient changes in physical conditions, particularly in a tidal-dominated system.
