Efficient Approximation of Jacobian Matrices Involving a Non-Uniform Fast Fourier Transform (NUFFT)

Guanhua Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient and accurate method for computing approximate gradients involving NUFFTs, which improves the accuracy and efficiency of non-Cartesian MRI sampling trajectory learning. The proposed approach enables sampling optimization for larger image sizes and leads to improved image quality. It also shows that model-based image reconstruction methods can perform nearly as well as CNN-based methods when suitably optimized.

Jointly Learning Non-Cartesian k-Space Trajectories and Reconstruction Networks for 2D and 3D MR Imaging through Projection

Chaithya Giliyar Radhakrishna et al.

Summary: Compressed sensing in MRI involves optimizing sampling patterns in k-space and reconstructing images from undersampled data using deep learning methods. This study addresses concerns in existing approaches by enforcing hardware constraints using a projection step, resulting in flexible k-space trajectories and improved image quality. In both 2D and 3D studies, the proposed PROJeCTOR trajectories outperform previous state-of-the-art methods, achieving higher SSIM scores and PSNR gains.

Optimizing Full 3D SPARKLING Trajectories for High-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging

G. R. Chaithya et al.

Summary: The study proposes a new efficient algorithm for achieving higher acceleration factors in 3D imaging without compromising image quality. The algorithm uses fast multipole methods to design sampling patterns with a large number of k-space samples. Comparisons between multi-CPU and GPU implementations demonstrate that GPU is optimal for high-resolution 3D imaging.

B-Spline Parameterized Joint Optimization of Reconstruction and K-Space Trajectories (BJORK) for Accelerated 2D MRI

Guanhua Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to jointly optimize the reconstruction method and sampling trajectories, achieving improved image quality through supervised learning. The proposed approach parameterizes trajectories using quadratic B-spline kernels, applies multiscale optimization, and uses an efficient nonCartesian unrolled neural network-based reconstruction. The learned trajectory shows significantly improved image quality compared to previous methods.

Results of the 2020 fastMRI Challenge for Machine Learning MR Image Reconstruction

Matthew J. Muckley et al.

Summary: This article discusses the organization of the second fastMRI competition, which focuses on reconstructing MRI images with subsampled k-space data, targeting the principal problem of accelerating MRI scans. Results showed one team performing best in both SSIM scores and qualitative radiologist evaluations. In contrast to the 2019 challenge, evaluations in this competition also emphasized pathological assessment in brain images.

Learning the sampling density in 2D SPARKLING MRI acquisition for optimized image reconstruction

G. R. Chaithya et al.

Summary: The SPARKLING algorithm was designed for accelerated 2D MRI in the compressed sensing context but has limitations such as unknown target sampling density and disconnected sampling pattern generation from image reconstruction. Recent advancements in data-driven learning, like LOUPE, have been merged with deep neural networks for image reconstruction to learn the optimal target sampling density, resulting in improved performance in CS studies.

CG-SENSE revisited: Results from the first ISMRM reproducibility challenge

Oliver Maier et al.

Summary: The study aimed to address the issue of reproducibility in MR image reconstruction, with participants challenged to reconstruct multicoil k-space data using a specified method and comparing results with consolidated reference implementations. Visual differences between submissions were minimal, with pixel-wise variations attributed to image orientation, assumed field-of-view, or resolution.
