In Situ Visualization and Quantification of Electrical Self-Heating in Conjugated Polymer Diodes Using Raman Spectroscopy

Sudeshna Maity et al.

Summary: Self-heating in organic electronics can affect electrical performance and degrade devices. However, quantifying self-heating effects in disordered organic semiconductors using only electrical techniques is difficult due to their complex transport properties. Therefore, more direct methods are needed to monitor the impact of self-heating on device performance. This study visualizes self-heating in organic polymer diodes using Raman spectroscopy and quantifies the thermal effects by observing temperature-dependent shifts in polymer vibrational modes.

3D-Printable Shape-Memory Polymers Based on Halogen Bond Interactions

Josefine Meurer et al.

Summary: For the first time, supramolecular halogen bonding is used to prepare shape-memory polymers. The polymers are covalently cross-linked and contain both halogen bond acceptors and donors in their side chains. The research shows excellent shape-memory abilities of the polymers and the possibility of 3D printing them.

Shape recovery and reprocessable polyurethanes crosslinked with double decker silsesquioxane via Diels-Alder reaction

Bingjie Zhao et al.

Summary: A novel organic-inorganic polyurethane thermoset crosslinked with a difunctional polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) was synthesized via Diels-Alder (DA) reaction. The resulting DAPU-DDSQs displayed improved thermomechanical properties and shape memory properties with increasing 3,13-dimaleimido DDSQ incorporation. The reprocessing properties of the DAPU-DDSQs at the temperature of retro DA reaction allow for the re-editing of the original shapes of shape memory PUs.

Dual crosslinked metallopolymers using orthogonal metal complexes as rewritable shape-memory polymers

Josefine Meurer et al.

Summary: This work presents the synthesis and characterization of easily tunable shape-memory metallopolymers with excellent rewriting properties. By utilizing different metal salts, the stability of complexes can be independently tuned, allowing for control of the switching and rewriting temperature of the shape-memory polymer. Fixity and recovery rates up to 99% were achieved, with thermo mechanical analyses demonstrating the ability to rewrite without reducing shape-memory capabilities.
