The effect of red and violet light emitting diode (LED) treatments on the postharvest quality and biodiversity of fresh-cut pakchoi (Brassica rapa L. Chinensis)

Yuchen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that red and violet LED irradiation significantly inhibited changes in sensory evaluation of pakchoi, increased the content of chlorophyll, ASA and antioxidant enzymes, and prolonged the shelf life of pakchoi. Additionally, LED treatment altered microbial community structure and inhibited the reproduction of specific spoilage organisms, contributing to the preservation of pakchoi quality.

TMT-Based Quantitative Proteomics Analyses Reveal the Antibacterial Mechanisms of Anthocyanins from Aronia melanocarpa against Escherichia coli O157:H7

Haotian Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, the antibacterial mechanism of Aronia melanocarpa anthocyanins (AMAs) against Escherichia coli was explored at the protein level using a quantitative proteomics method. The results showed that AMAs can affect various protein pathways in E. coli, leading to morphological changes and cell death. These findings are important for understanding the molecular mechanism of plant-derived antimicrobial agents.

Cold Plasma Affects Germination and Fungal Community Structure of Buckwheat Seeds

Jure Mravlje et al.

Summary: The study found that cold plasma treatment can reduce the frequency and diversity of fungi inside seeds, but it has a negative impact on seed germination, especially when the treatment time exceeds 90 seconds. Fungal strains of Alternaria and Epicoccum were found to be the most resistant to cold plasma treatment. The results suggest that cold plasma treatment may be suitable for postharvest and food production, but not for further seed sowing.

Host species shape the community structure of culturable endophytes in fruits of wild berry species (Vaccinium myrtillus L., Empetrum nigrum L. and Vaccinium vitis-idaea L .)

Minh-Phuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study examined the composition of fungal and bacterial endophytes in fruits of three wild berry species, revealing differences in endophytic community structures between the species with fungi being predominant. Previously unknown endophytic fungal taxa were identified, and a potential role of soluble phenolic compounds in shaping the endophytic communities was proposed.

Potential use of atmospheric cold plasma for postharvest preservation of blueberries

Xiaoxia Hu et al.

Summary: Atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) treatment can effectively inhibit microbial growth and gray mold decay of blueberries during postharvest storage, while also positively affecting fruit quality. However, long-term treatment may result in oxidative damage.
