Highly efficient chlorinated solvent uptake by novel covalent organic networks via thiol-ene chemistry

Mustafa Selman Yavuz et al.

Summary: Two novel covalent organic networks, TEPN-1 and TEPN-2, were synthesized and analyzed for solvent uptake capacity. TEPN-1 showed higher swelling adsorption ratio with chloroform and DCM compared to TEPN-2. Both TEPN-1 and TEPN-2 exhibited minimal water uptake and efficient adsorption for various organic solvents.

A Highly Effective, UV-Curable, Intumescent, Flame-Retardant Coating Containing Phosphorus, Nitrogen, and Sulfur, Based on Thiol-Ene Click Reaction

Wenqian Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a flame-retardant, UV-cured coating was prepared on the surface of fiber composites using a thiol-ene click reaction. The synergistic effect of phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur was studied, and sample S-4(N3P2)(6) exhibited the highest flame retardancy and lowest smoke production. The coated composites also showed improved transparency and mechanical properties.

Self-Organized Liquid Crystal Droplets as Phototunable Softmasks

Siddharth Thakur et al.

Summary: A one-step self-organized pathway is utilized to generate large-area and high-density liquid crystal micro-droplets by spreading an LC-laden volatile liquid film rapidly on an aqueous surfactant bath. Modification of surfactant and LC loadings in the fluid can tune the size, periodicity, and ordering of the microdroplets. The LC microdroplets serve as photomasks for soft-photolithography applications, allowing for the creation of mesoscale three-dimensional features on photoresist films by controlling the movement of photons through the drops.

Electro-optical properties and frequency response of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal gratings doped with multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Yourong Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a model for determining the lowest driving voltage of H-PDLC based on the Maxwell-Wagner effect and specific nanotube doping. It is found that MWCNTs can effectively adjust the performance of the grating, resulting in higher diffraction efficiency and lower threshold voltage. By comparing experimental and simulation results, the optimal driving frequency and doping concentration to minimize driving voltage are identified.

Electrically switchable and optically tunable liquid crystal/silicone oil based non-aqueous emulsions for electro-optical device applications

Ravi K. Shukla et al.

Summary: Liquid crystal/silicone oil based emulsions were prepared and characterized for interfacial interactions, optical and electro-optical behavior. The stability and characteristics of the emulsions were affected by the varying silicone oil concentration in liquid crystal, and devices fabricated from these emulsions showed enhanced switching characteristics and optical transmission. The potential applications of these surfactant-free emulsions in various fields were also discussed.
