Optical Isolation with Optical Parametric Amplification in an Atomic System

Changbiao Li et al.

Summary: Optical isolation based on optical parametric amplification is demonstrated in a coherent three-level atomic configuration. By oppositely launching the probe beams to satisfy or not satisfy the phase-matching condition, the beams can pass through the medium experiencing parametric amplification or strong resonant absorption. This magnet- and cavity-free optical isolation exhibits a high isolation ratio and a broad bandwidth.

Polariton ring currents and circular dichroism of Mg-porphyrin in a chiral cavity

Shichao Sun et al.

Summary: Placing Mg-porphyrin molecules in a chiral optical cavity breaks time reversal symmetry, generating polariton ring currents with circular dichroism signals. The degeneracy of electronic states in the molecule is lifted by chiral polaritons, resulting in a signal one order of magnitude stronger than that induced by circularly polarized light. Enantiomer-selective photochemical processes in chiral optical cavities represent an intriguing future possibility.

Noiseless photonic non-reciprocity via optically-induced magnetization

Xin-Xin Hu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a method of magnetic-free non-reciprocity by optically-induced magnetization in an atom ensemble. Excellent isolation performance (with highest isolation ratio of 51.5 dB) is observed over a power dynamic range of 7 orders of magnitude, with noiseless property verified by quantum statistics measurements. This approach can be applied to other atoms and atom-like emitters, paving the way for future studies of integrated photonic non-reciprocal devices.

All-optical reversible single-photon isolation at room temperature

Ming-Xin Dong et al.

Summary: This study proposes and experimentally demonstrates using either electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) or a Raman transition at room temperature with warm atoms to achieve single-photon all-optical isolation with high isolation and low insertion loss. The realization of single-photon isolation and coherent light isolation at room temperature promises simpler reconfiguration of high-speed classical and quantum information processing.

Optical nonreciprocity using four-wave mixing in hot atoms

Fei Song et al.

Summary: This study realizes magnet-free and cavity-free optical nonreciprocity by using phase-matched four-wave mixing in hot atoms, achieving isolation of over 20 dB and insertion loss less than 1 dB. The results offer insights into a broad class of parametrically modulated nonreciprocal behavior, paving the way for optimal nonreciprocal devices based on nonlinear FWM processes.

Nonreciprocity and Quantum Correlations of Light Transport in Hot Atoms via Reservoir Engineering

Xingda Lu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates nonreciprocal light transport in a quantum system of hot atoms by engineering the dissipative atomic reservoir. By tuning the phase of collective atomic excitations through external driving fields, interchannel quantum correlations originating from interactions with the engineered reservoir are observed. This nonreciprocal transport in a quantum optical atomic system opens up new opportunities for atom-based nonreciprocal optics and quantum simulations with coupled optical channels.
