Towards high-power mid-IR light source tunable from 3.8 to 4.5 μm by HBr-filled hollow-core silica fibres

Zhiyue Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reports the efficient mid-IR laser emission achieved using HBr-filled silica hollow-core fibers, with a breakthrough in the longest emission wavelength and largest tuning range. It opens new opportunities for the development of broadly tunable high-power mid-IR fiber lasers.

Hundred-meter-scale, kilowatt peak-power, near-diffraction-limited, mid-infrared pulse delivery via the low-loss hollow-core fiber

Q. I. A. N. G. Fu et al.

Summary: We have reported a high-power single-mode mid-infrared pulse delivery system using anti-resonant hollow-core fiber (HCF) with a record delivery distance of 108 m. The system achieved average powers of 592 mW and 133 mW through 5 m and 108 m of HCF, respectively. This research is of great importance for improving the efficiency of mid-infrared pulse transmission.

Low-energy-threshold deep-ultraviolet generation in a small-mode-area hollow-core fiber

Daiqi Xiong et al.

Summary: Wavelength-tunable deep-ultraviolet pulses are generated in a small-mode-area hollow-core fiber fabricated by tapering a nodeless tubular-type hollow-core fiber, reducing the pump energy requirement for inducing sufficient nonlinear effects. The onset of ultraviolet light is reported with a low pump pulse energy of 125 nJ, with frequency conversion arising due to soliton phase matching, preserving shot-to-shot coherence. This provides a promising platform for a compact ultraviolet frequency comb source.

Enhancement of UV-visible transmission characteristics in wet-etched hollow core anti-resonant fibers

Van Thuy Hoang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of modifying short-wavelength transmission windows in anti-resonant hollow core fibers through post-processing with hydrofluoric acid etching. By reducing the thickness of cladding capillary membranes, spectral blue-shifting and broadening of anti-resonant transmission windows were achieved. The experiment verified the applicability of controlling a silica fiber post-processing technique for broadening transmission windows in hollow core fibers, with practical applications demonstrated through butt-coupling to light-emitting diodes centered at various ultraviolet wavelengths.

Geometrical Scaling of Antiresonant Hollow-Core Fibers for Mid-Infrared Beam Delivery

Ang Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of adjusting two key structural parameters in antiresonant hollow-core fibers on low-loss mid-infrared beam delivery is investigated numerically, showing different behaviors under various conditions. An additional loss peak resembling resonance is observed in the long-wavelength limit of the first transmission band in antiresonant hollow-core fibers. It is found that the confinement loss in tubular-type hollow-core fibers is highly dependent on the core size, with the magnitude of the dependence varying with the cladding tube size. The loss scales with the core diameter to the power of approximately -5.4 for commonly used tubular-type hollow-core fiber designs.

Coherent interaction of atoms with a beam of light confined in a light cage

Flavie Davidson-Marquis et al.

Summary: A study has shown modified electromagnetically induced transparency for a non-diffractive beam of light in an on-chip, laterally-accessible hollow-core light cage, demonstrating strong coherent light-matter coupling. The use of alumina nanofilm allows precise tuning of the high-transmission spectral region of the light-cage mode while protecting the polymer against corrosive alkali vapour.
