In this study, the adsorption of triclosan (TCS) on nylon66 membrane is investigated for the development of a preconcentration and sensing platform. The nylon66 membrane demonstrates excellent sorption ability, even for trace amounts of TCS (10 μg/L). XPS analysis reveals the formation of a hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group of TCS and the amide group of nylon66. TCS shows preferential adsorption on the membrane due to its higher hydrophobic partition coefficient, replacing the water molecule.
In this work, adsorption of triclosan (TCS) on nylon66 membraneis explored to develop a preconcentration and sensing platform. Nylon66 membrane exhibits superior sorption ability even for trace amountsof TCS (10 & mu;g/L). Investigating the surface adsorption chemistryby XPS analysis revealed the formation of a hydrogen bond betweenthe hydroxyl group of TCS and the amide group of nylon 66. In theabsence of TCS, the amphiprotic water molecule forms a multilayerOH group on the membrane surface. However, TCS showed preferentialadsorption on the membrane-replacing water molecule due to its higherhydrophobic partition coefficient. We validated the effective preconcentrationof TCS on the membrane using LC-MS analysis. Performing colorimetrydirectly on the TCS-enriched membrane surface showed a visible colorchange for concentrations as low as 10 & mu;g/L. The relative blueintensity was found to vary linearly over a concentration range of10-100 & mu;g/L, and we achieved a detection limit of 7 & mu;g/Lfor a 5 mL sample. This method utilizes easy-to-use resources whichdrastically reduce the cost and complexity of analysis.
