A Review on Superhydrophobic Surface with Anti-Icing Properties in Overhead Transmission Lines

Bo Li et al.

Summary: The icing on overhead transmission lines is a major threat to the safe operation of power systems, and superhydrophobic surface coatings have been developed as a potential solution. However, the unique structure and varied electric performance of transmission lines pose challenges to the application of superhydrophobic coatings. In contrast, superhydrophobic surfaces achieved through micro-nano structures and modification agents provide advantages such as maintaining the substrate's weight, durability, and stability.

Omniphobic liquid-like surfaces

Liwei Chen et al.

Summary: Liquid-repellent surfaces, such as solid surfaces with flexible polymer brushes or alkyl monolayers, have unique liquid-like properties and can repel various liquids. They offer an alternative to superhydrophobic or superoleophobic surfaces and lubricated slippery surfaces. The liquid-like nature of these surfaces also has important implications for interface properties and applications. This review provides an overview of liquid-repellent surfaces, their mechanisms, and the challenges and opportunities they present.

Design considerations to fabricate multifunctional superomniphobic surfaces: A review

Jaya Verma et al.

Summary: Superomniphobic surfaces, which exhibit repellency to both low and high surface tension liquids, have attracted great interest in various industrial and biomedical applications. This review focuses on the challenges in designing and fabricating superomniphobic surfaces, with emphasis on the significance of surface energy, roughness, and re-entrant texture in achieving the desired properties. The review also discusses the use of hierarchical texture to enhance the contact angles and reduce hysteresis in superomniphobic surfaces, and explores the design parameters for efficient fabrication and potential applications.

Study of the Droplet Pinning Force in the Transition from Dry to Liquid-Infused Thin Polymer Films

Polina S. Kazaryan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the change in pinning force during the transition from dry to oil-impregnated thin polymer films for water droplets and hexadecane droplets. By varying the oil content in films using supercritical impregnation, two cases of pinning force behavior are identified, and the factors that determine the pinning force are discussed. The results show that the pinning force in the transition can be well approximated by the hysteresis model of dilute defects proposed by Joanny and de Gennes.

Condensation heat transfer on phase change slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces

Raza Gulfam et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the surface wetting characteristics and droplet dynamics of phase change slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (PC-SLIPSs), and their influence on water vapor condensation and heat transfer. The experiments show that the droplet dynamics of PC-SLIPSs are affected by different phases. The condensation experiments reveal that PC-SLIPSs have higher heat transfer coefficients in the liquid phase. The operational durability of PC-SLIPSs is also analyzed through modeling and experiments. In conclusion, PC-SLIPSs have various characteristics and can be competitive alternatives.

Origin of Underwater Oil-Repellence in Polyelectrolyte Brush Surfaces

Dan Daniel et al.

Summary: The research shows that polyelectrolyte brush surfaces are more oil-repellent when submerged under water due to the ability of charged moieties on the polymer backbone to retain strong hydration shells. Measurements of interaction forces between polyelectrolyte brushes and oil droplets reveal that surfaces with repulsive electric double-layer forces are most oil-repellent, and once a stable hydration layer forms, the characteristics of the polymer brush do not affect the oil-repellent performance.

Relationship between the Omniphobic Properties and the Swelling Degree of SLIPS Coatings Based on Polymer Gel Thin Films

P. S. Kazaryan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the omniphobic properties of coatings based on polymer matrices doped with liquid lubricants (SLIPS) and the degree of swelling of the matrices in the lubricant. A method for fabricating matrices with different lubricant contents by one-stage synthesis in supercritical CO2 was proposed. The study found that the contact angle hysteresis and sliding angle of water and saturated hydrocarbon droplets depended on the degree of swelling in the matrices.
